Emma Stone On Her First Breakup & Loving Ryan Gosling's Brain
The bubbly actress opens up to Interview magazine about the highs and lows of her life and career.
Emma Stone may be quite smitten with her Amazing Spider-Man costar and boyfriend Andrew Garfield, but the 23-year-old actress's love life hasn't always been all roses and kissing on the beach.
The blonde beauty reveals in the September issue of Interview magazine that she remembers the darker, more painful periods of her life that left her heartbroken. She says the first time she ever experienced such sadness was at 14. "I was crawling on the floor. I remember throwing up ... Like, within the hour," she tells her interviewer, which happens to be writer, director and friend Cameron Crowe. "I have never felt anything quite like that. It was so visceral. It's like someone has killed you and you have to live through it and watch it happen ... It was awful."
It must have been a pretty bad breakup!
But these days, Stone is learning more about herself and the kinds of relationships she likes to be in. She admits: "I do find that I'm drawn to people in my life, romantically or not, that have something to teach me. I'm drawn to people who I feel like I can learn from. I'm not really drawn to toxic people ... But there is some sense of being changed by each person that I think I'm drawn to." Cute Couple Alert! Emma Stone And Andrew Garfield Are Dating
Luckily for Stone, she's most certainly feeling Garfield change her in a positive way. She tells Crowe that she typically has very strong, emotional reactions to places in her past, but that only recently have they been happy reactions – presumably because of Garfield.
"I realized that this town (Los Angeles) is full of ghosts for me now ... I'm just beginning in my life to gain places that I want to go back to and experience that way again," she says.
Although, those experiences could also be with her famous costars like Ryan Gosling, who she worked with in Crazy, Stupid, Love and the upcoming film, Gangster Squad. She tells Crowe of their close friendship: "I just really like hearing his viewpoint because I know that it's never going to be tainted. He's very much his own person ... I only met him two years ago when we did Crazy, Stupid, Love, but it was like meeting a member of your team or something. I really like his brain ... I immediately felt a kinship with him."
His brain? What about his face, body and killer personality?!
We hope Ms. Stone realizes just how lucky she is to have such awesome men in her life – and ones that aren't leaving her heartbroken and crawling on the floor. She's come a long way, and we can't wait to see where she's headed!
