About Mary Alice Long
Mary Alice Long, PhD, creator of Play=Peace™, is a Seattle play-based Jungian therapist.
She emphasizes the importance of play in dreaming, love, work, and creating. Dr. Long is a working artist/writer who earned her PhD in clinical psychology with an emphasis in depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Mary Alice offers individual half or full day retreats for parents, artistic entrepreneurs, and professionals; workshops, and group retreats. Mary Alice is also available as a speaker for your group, conference or event.
Mary Alice has education and experience in parent and maternal-child education, health education, nursing, social work, psychology, and the arts. She is a parent of 3 adult children and grandmother (Nana) to 4 grandchildren ages 3-12. Mary Alice’s home studio is located on Whidbey Island where she reflects and creates in nature–a life’s work full of love,dreaming, meaningful work, and adventurous play.
Mary Alice was a single parent for 12 years while working full time as a staff nurse and health educator. During that time she also completed her studies in social work and began her doctoral training and research in depth psychology. In 1987, Mary Alice was a surrogate mother. She later produced a dance video on her personal experience as a surrogate mother entitled: ‘Love’s Way: The Joy and Pain of Surrogacy’

Mary Alice believes that play is our human birthright. Play can feel risky for adults. The reward is a life of wild freedom filled with imagination, creativity, and joy.
