About Virginia Gilbert
Virginia Gilbert is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles. After graduating from Georgetown University with a B.A. in English, she moved to Hollywood to work in the entertainment business. After the birth of her son (she also has a daughter), she switched to journalism, writing for The L.A. Times, Salon, Self, Glamour, and various online parenting websites.
She went back to school to get her Masters in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University L.A., not intending to practice therapy, but solely to develop an expertise to write about psychological issues. A week into her graduate program, she realized she actually wanted to become a therapist and help people heal. She's been licensed since 2011.
She has worked in various treatment settings, including a sex addiction clinic, substance abuse intensive outpatient programs, and an adolescent residential facility. She has a private practice where she specializes in helping people struggling with sex and love addiction, and high-conflict divorce. Her clinical work is informed by attachment theory (how our early attachment experiences shape our current relationships), mindfulness, and 12-step principles. She has written for, and has been featured as a relationship expert in, HuffPost, Good Men Project, Addiction.com, Babble, and Covey Club, among other online publications.
She's a regular presenter at Second Saturday L.A., a workshop for people considering divorce. Her first book, Transcending High-Conflict Divorce: How To Disengage From Your Ex And Find Your Power, was published in 2019.
