About Mara Jill Herman
Mara Jill Herman is an award-winning, multidisciplinary Jewish artist who endeavors to abolish anti-semitism, advocates for gender equity, and helps protect human rights. Her work has been featured in New York Jewish Week, Playbill, AM New York, Backstage, BroadwayWorld Japan, and others. She is a coauthor of So You Wanna Be A Superstar? The Ultimate Audition Guide (Running Press Kids) and contributor to Musical Theater Today, Vol. 3 (Yonkers International Press). As a director, Mara was featured on CBS Mornings with the Queens Theatre Senior Ensemble. She produced the first production and SOLD OUT run of S. Dylan Zwickel’s The Moss Maidens at SheNYC Arts Summer Theater Festival. The production won Best Ensemble and Best Play and made history with two extensions (a first in the festival’s eight-year existence). Additional producing highlights include Communion, Ruth Sent Us, Changemakers, Stronger Than Hate, and Caregiver Cabaret. Favorite performance credits include On The Town (Hildy), Guys and Dolls (Adelaide), All Shook Up (Miss Sandra), Rent (Maureen), and Love’s Labour’s Lost (Maria). International Tours include Disney On Classic (Mother Gothel) and Jesus Christ Superstar. Mara made her Carnegie Hall debut in We Are Here: Songs From The Holocaust with solo appearances at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 54 Below, and Chelsea Table & Stage. Developmental highlights include The Band’s Visit, Sam’s Room, and The Bubble. Mara is featured on the 2022 concept album How To Repair A Mechanical Heart (streaming on Spotify/Apple Music/Amazon). Teaching affiliations include New York Theatre Workshop and 92nd Street Y.
