About Michael Aaron
As a nationally certified sex therapist and clinical sexologist, I have expertise and experience working with a wide range of sexual and relationship issues. I specialize in working with sexual minorities, alternative/kink/polyamory lifestyles, sex workers, discordant desire and infidelity in couples, sexual dysfunction and anxiety, gender and orientation confusion, and sexual compulsivity. There is literally no question or concern that is too troubling or difficult for me to help you address.
I am the author of Modern Sexuality: The Truth About Sex and Relationships and am a regular contributor to Psychology Today. I hold a PhD in Clinical Sexology from the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists, am certified as a Sex Therapist by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and am a Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology.
I have presented internationally on a wide variety of sexuality topics, including the relationship between male sexuality and aggression; working with erotic minorities; and the treatment of sex offenders. My research has studied the connection between sexuality and aggression; power dynamics within relationships and society; and the intersection of sexuality and spirituality. Along these lines, my examination of the link between childhood sexual abuse and adult sexual dysfunctions was awarded the Jacob Goldfein Award for Outstanding Creative and Scholarly Work and was published in the Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity.
I also currently hold a position on the Research Advisory Committee for the Community-Academic Consortium for Research on Alternative Sexualities (CARAS), an organization dedicated to the support and promotion of excellence in the study of alternative sexualities, and the dissemination of research results to the alternative sexuality communities, the public, and the research community. I am also an inducted member of the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR), a scientific society whose objectives are the promotion of high standards of research and scholarship in the field of sexual behavior. In short, not only am a sex expert, but I am also on the cutting edge of new and pioneering research.
My life's focus has been to help my clients accept their sexualities and improve their sex lives. I have been interviewed in various media outlets, online podcasts, and magazines, such as the New York Times, Wall St Journal, CNN, Men's Health, Women's Health, Men's Fitness, Thrillist and Vice.com. I am featured in the April issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and am on the Advisory Board of Men's Fitness. As a writer and speaker, I reach a broader audience and plant some seeds of change farther and wider. Prior to my work as a sex therapist, I worked as a social worker (I also have a master's degree in social work and hold an LCSW) and harm reduction specialist, providing outreach services to transgender individuals, sex workers, and intravenous drug users. I have additionally worked in a sex offender treatment clinic, as well as in both outpatient and inpatient mental health centers. In short, I have devoted my career to studying and improving the experience of human sexuality.
I invite you to contact me to see if I am the right therapist for you.
