About Thomas Smith
I am a writer, photographer, dad of three boys, and content consultant based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm also a trained neuroscientist. I write about topics including social media, home tech, and the brain.
For over 10 years, I've worked as a professional news photographer and the CEO of Gado Images, a photography and content company. A big part of my job is visiting restaurants to take photos, traveling to luxury destinations, and photographing new technologies. That's given me a unique perspective on entrepreneurship, work, travel and much more. I love sharing those perspectives through my writing.
I also hold a degree in Cognitive Science (Neuroscience) and Cultural Anthropology from Johns Hopkins University. My formal neusoscience training gives me a unique scientific background and the ability to delve deeply into topics related to the human brain, emotions, mental health, and more. Although I'm not a physician (you should always consult one for medical advice), I'm a talened layperson with formal training, and that helps me to approach complex brain science topics from an approachable perspective.
For the last several years, I've also experimented with a wide array of personal finance apps and services, side hustles, and cryptocurrencies. Sometimes I've made money, and sometimes I've lost it! But the perspectives I've gained there through first-hand experience help tremendously in my writing.
