About Erica J Burns
I enjoy providing counseling including Imago relationship therapy to my clients in Wyoming and Idaho, where I am licensed, and life and relationship coaching to individuals and couples in other locations. Working by Telephone and/or with Skype is convenient, confidential and sometimes provides my clients with an opportunity to feel even more free to express themselves. Practicing since 1980, I provide a gentle supportive approach in my work with individuals and couples. Having completed a B.A. in Psychology at Bucknell University and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Columbia University, I am constantly improving and adding to my skills and qualifications to provide my clients with the most up to date healing available in my profession. My postgraduate training includes completion of a two year certificate program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with an emphasis on addiction issues at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center in New York City. When I started working with couples in my private practice I realized that I needed specialized training to be of real assistance so I became an Advanced Clinician of Imago Relationship Therapy 10 years ago. IMAGO, developed by Harville Hendrix, author of "Getting The Love You Want", provides a solid foundation on which to work with people regarding relationship issues. From helping single people understand who they are attracted to and why, to providing unmarried couples with the tools to have successful relationships, to assisting struggling married couples to save their marriages and move into richer, healthier mature love, Imago has given me the expertise I need to be a valuable resource for my clients. I am delighted to offer the Imago "Start Right, Stay Connected" premarital seminar to help couples start their relationships with the most powerful tools to have the marriages they have dreamed of. I also enjoy providing the "Imago Connects" relationship enrichment seminar to couples and individuals who want to move beyond conflicts and learn healthy communication tools to foster conscious, loving relationships. In the past decade I have also been fortunate to realize how vital it is for people to address what goes on in their bodies as well as their hearts and minds if they are to truly heal and recover from many of life's problems. I discovered Somatic Experiencing, the work of Peter Levine, author of "Waking The Tiger", which helps people to deal with trauma, pain and anxiety. I have been a Certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner for four years. This work not only helps individuals with their issues but greatly enables couples to contain their reactivity and provide a safe space for each other in which to work on their issues. Currently I am enrolled in a one-year Touch Training for Psychotherapists program through the Foundation for Human Enrichment. I also have 30 years of experience as a career counselor and I periodically offer time-limited support groups focusing on career change, codependency, couple's enrichment, stress reduction and other issues.
