Richard Gere is reportedly struggling with the idea that he may not be here to see his youngest children grow up.

The "Pretty Woman" actor married his wife, Alejandra Silva in April 2018 and, together, share two sons — Alexander, born in 2019, and a second son born in 2020 whose name has not been revealed.

The 72-year-old actor also has another son, Homer who was born in 2000, with his ex-wife, Carey Lowell. He got married to Lowell in 2002 after splitting from his first wife, Cindy Crawford.

But, as he gets older, it is mainly Gere's youngest children's lives that he is worried he will miss out on.

“He knows he’s extremely old to be a father. He can do the math — and it’s made him very aware his time is limited,” a source told Radar.

The source claims, that after divorcing Lowell in 2016, Gere had wanted to wait to have more kids until he found the right person, however, it took him a while to realize the hardships he would face.

Gere married Silva in 2018 when she was 35 years old and he was 68 years old.

"When he found out they were pregnant, he realized how difficult it would be for him to raise a young child.”

Gere has, on a number of occasions, credited his health to practicing meditation and opened up about how it changed his life.

In a 2017 interview, he said, “The last 45 years of daily practice is something that has given me extraordinary riches and friends. It actually changes your mind, the brain actually changes.”

Later, in a 2018 interview, Gere was accompanied by Daniel Goleman and Richard Davidson, who have written the book, "Altered Traits: Science Reveals How Meditation Changes Your Mind, Brain, and Body."

As they were talking about meditation, Gere also opened up about how practicing meditation as a daily routine has changed his mind and improved his physical health.

Davidson said, "We know, for example, that calming the mind can also have an effect on the body and improve your physical health in certain ways."

The “Hachiko” actor has also voiced his concerns about his children to his friend Dalai Lama and sought some comfort from him, according to Radar Online's source.

“The Dalai Lama reminded him that, as a Buddhist, he believes in reincarnation,” the source added.

“He’s found some comfort in the fact that should he die before the child becomes an adult, he will return in some form to experience him or her!”
