Instagram It's always a brave thing when a sexual assault survivor comes forward, and Brooke Nevils — the woman who recently accused Matt Lauer of sexual assault — is no exception. And now, word on the street is she's got herself a wonderful fiancé, and he's very supportive of her decision to come forward. So who is Luke Thompson?
When Brooke Nevils came forward with claims that Matt Lauer sexually assaulted her, she was met with her fair share of detractors. Her biggest detractor was, of course, Matt Lauer, who penned an open letter than can best be described as "out there." Claiming that he and Nevils had a consensual sexual relationship, Lauer tore apart Nevils' claims and turned her brave truth-telling into a feeding frenzy for men looking for even the stupidest of reasons to tear apart the #MeToo movement. While, according to People, Brooke held her own against Lauer's howling, The New York Post reports that, like most rape victims, Nevils blamed herself for the longest time.
A source close to Brooke told Page Six, "Brooke thought it was all her fault and she stayed that way until the #MeToo movement came along,” the source said, referring to the powerful movement against powerful men accused of sexual assault. “Like many victims, she was trying to clean up the original event in her mind, thinking if they could have a romantic relationship, then she could make this event less traumatic."
As horrible as people can be, an opinion piece in The Daily Beast proves that not everyone is horrible, and Brooke Nevils is getting support from a lot of different people from different walks of life.
And of course, another person that's been supportive of Brooke Nevils is her soon-to-be husband. Let's find out more about him.
1. She revealed who he was on Twitter.
"The mystery man spotted with me by the photographers camped outside our building is my incredibly strong and supportive fiancé, Luke. I look forward to being spotted with him for the rest of our lives," she wrote, while the New York Post confirmed he was a political strategist.
2. Luke Thompson is a very accomplished political strategist.
Prior to becoming known as Brooke Nevils' fiance, Luke Thompson was best known in the political world as a strategist. He contributes regularly to The National Review, and his bio reads that he's a "Republican political consultant." His Twitter page gives a little more insight, as he lists himself as the co-host of a podcast called Constitutionally Speaking. He also says that he's formerly a part of Right 2 Rise USA, a PAC, and also formerly part of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. His roles in the organizations, however, are unclear. (Does it go without saying that the usual Twitter trolls are suggesting that Thompson's political affiliation is the reason why Brooke Nevils' case is getting attention?)
3. Little else is known about Luke Thompson, or his relationship with Brooke Nevils.
Outside of the few small details about Luke Thompson that were mentioned, previously, little else is known about him or about his relationship with Brooke Nevils. It's unclear when or where they met, or when they're getting married. It also bears stating that perhaps this is for the best, as nobody needs Matt Lauer and his gaggle of supporters writing more howling screeds about how he's "so emasculated" or whatever such nonsense.
4. He hasn't spoken out about Brooke Nevils' accusations against Matt Lauer.
Luke Thompson has remained relatively mum about his fiancé's accusations against Matt Lauer, and People reports that Matt Lauer's ex-wife Annette Roque has also decided to keep quiet. "In response to your inquiry, our client has asked us to tell you that now that the parties are officially divorced, her priority and only concern is for their wonderful children,” Roque’s lawyer John M. Teitler said to the outlet. “Our client will make no further statements.”
5. Brooke Nevils' account of her assault helped bring down Matt Lauer.
Ronan Farrow detailed the gruesome facts of Brooke Nevils' assault in his new book, Catch & Kill, which will be released on October 15th. Jezebel reports that, as a result of Nevils telling the story of what happened to the brass at NBC, Matt Lauer was fired from his position with the company.
6. Brooke Nevils doesn't need the notoriety that this confession brings.
Brooke Nevils is a very accomplished woman in the industry. In addition to her roles at NBC, her IMDB page reveals she also served as a producer for some high profile shows, including 90-Day Fiance: Happily Ever After, Royal Wedding Watch, and Headliners. So, an accomplished woman is currently engaged to an accomplished man in Luke Thompson, and she's brave enough to come forward with her sexual assault survival story. And for this, she should be commended.
