1. His real name is Eddie Mahoney.
Variety reports that Eddie Money's real name is Eddie Mahoney. He was born in Brooklyn but grew up in Long Island, NY. He was originally a law enforcement official, like his father before him, but decided to try his hand at music in the 1970s. When he met up with Bill Graham in the Bay Area of San Francisco, his career kicked off in earnest.
2. Eddie Money's biggest hits were in the 1980s.
"He was best known for his hits throughout the late ’70s and early ’80s, including “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Baby Hold On,” “Take Me Home Tonight,” and more," reported Pitchfork, who added that his biggest hit came with the 1986 hit, "Take Me Home Tonight," which featured Ronnie Spector.
3. But he continued to make music up until his death.
According to Newsday, a whole new generation of music fans discovered Eddie Money thanks to his show on AXS TV, where he appeared with his wife and children. His daughter, Jesse Money, is aan aspiring singer as well.
4. It was on his reality show that Eddie Money revealed that he had cancer.
"What I don’t want to do is I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody,” Money said on the show, according to Rolling Stone. “It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody. I want people to know that cancer [treatment] has come a long way and not everybody dies from cancer like they did in the fifties and sixties. Am I going to live a long time? Who knows? It’s in God’s hands.”
5. He cancelled his summer tour this year because of the complications from his illness.
CBS News reports that Eddie Money cancelled this year's summer tour because he'd developed an infection from complications due to his cancer treatment. It was the first time he'd ever done that in his 50-year musical career.
6. Eddie Money died of cancer.
In a statement released by Eddie Money's family, they revealed that Eddie Money died from complications due to cancer. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this obviously difficult time.
