What To Do When You (Really) Dislike Your Job, By Zodiac Sign
AKA: If you can't quit, try to tolerate it until you can make a change.
We all have bad days at work, but there’s definitely a difference between having bad days at work and absolutely hating your job.
Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as saying that you’re going to get a new job whenever you’re unhappy.
That’s just not how the job market works. In fact, there are so many of us who have to suffer in terrible jobs simply because we need the paycheck.

So, having the luxury of going through looking for an entirely new job just isn’t going to work.
There are times when quitting can be an option, but not before taking stock of your resources, making time for a job search, and figuring out if there’s anything else you can change before leaving your job.
There are very few times when people just up and quit their jobs whenever they’re unhappy.
But just because you’re stuck doesn’t mean you have to hate your job less. There are a ton of reasons why you might be unhappy in your current job. It could be the people you work with, your boss, how the company is run, or your pay and benefits.
No matter what the reason is, one thing is definitely clear: this is not a job you want to be in forever. I haven’t loved every job I’ve ever been in, but I definitely feel like I’ve been lucky the past few years.
My favorite thing about my jobs is that I have such strong women-led leadership to look up to. Being able to picture myself in their position makes me feel like I’ve made the right choice in where I am – in both of my jobs.
To say I’m blessed to work with such amazing teams is an understatement, but I do try to remember that whenever I am stressed out or frustrated.

I can’t say the same for some people I know. For me, I’ve always held the motto “If you’re unhappy, change something” close to my heart. I don’t believe in trying to tough out something that makes me unhappy or uncomfortable because all it does is drain me and make me feel like I’m punishing myself.
That said, there is someone I know who would rather be in a job that they hate, even when they have a skill that they are amazing at than find a job they actually enjoy.
For them, life has become all about clocking in and out, getting a paycheck, and surviving. It’s clear to me that they hate their job, but they also refuse to do anything about it.
While there’s only so much we can control in our lives when it comes to our careers, but even if there was one thing you could do to make the days a little more bearable, wouldn’t you do that one thing? I would hope so!
My point is, you may not be able to quit your job, but there are many other things you CAN do to make your work life a little bit more tolerable.
Here is what to do when you hate your job, based on your zodiac sign.
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
One of the most important things to remember when you hate your job, Aries, is to keep your cool. There are times when you've been known to be a hothead, which can lead to you say and do things you may regret later.
You don’t want to complain to the wrong person or up and quit before you’ve explored your options. Right now, keep your complaining to yourself and work on a game plan. You’ll thank yourself later when you can leave your job without burning bridges in the process.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
You are one of the more patient zodiac signs, Taurus, which will end up helping you in the long run. You are also all about stability, which means you’re not going to quit your job or make any sudden moves until you know what your next step is going to be.
If you hate your job, start doing some research into what your options are. Is it just a matter of switching departments or teams? Can you transfer to a different branch, or are you ready for an entirely different career change?
Start doing some research in your free time (NOT at work) before making your next move. You may have to keep your current job until you have a plan, but at least you won’t be stuck without a job while you look for something new.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
One of the best things about connecting with new people is that you can do so at any time without raising suspicion, Gemini. Looking to reconnect with old colleagues? No problem! Ran into someone at a party after hours and want to add them to your LinkedIn page? Sure!
If you hate your job, one of the most valuable things you can do is expand your network. Even if you don’t let on to anyone just yet what your plan is, you can at least take stock of who you know and who can help you make a career move when you ARE ready.
As someone who is a communications pro, this will just look like you are connecting with new people online… for now.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Part of looking for a new job and leaving your current job is taking risks, Cancer. You need to dive into the unknown and know that, no matter how scary it is, that you’ll come out in one piece on the other side.
If you hate your job, you need to take risks. That means doing the things you don’t want to do, like talking to your boss about what’s going on.
Maybe even putting in your two weeks before you’re emotionally ready. Unfortunately, we can’t always plan for our futures, so walking into the unknown is bound to happen, Cancer.
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
When you love what you do, Leo, work never really feels like work, does it? You can walk into the office with a smile on your face, knowing that everything is exactly how you want it to be.
Of course, when you hate your job, that’s a little bit different. It can be easy to lose your motivation when you’re unhappy at your job because you simply don’t want to be there anymore.
But even when you hate your job, it’s still important to do your best work until you can make a change. If you slack off, you’ll have to deal with a whole other set of problems that could set you back even further on your search for something better.
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
When you realize that you hate your job, Virgo, it can be easy to fall into a critical mindset that completely tears apart your self-confidence. All of a sudden, you start to feel like everything is wrong – not just with your job, but with yourself and your performance, too.
One thing you need to remember when you hate your job is to not blame yourself. What makes one person happy isn’t going to make everyone else in the world happy.
If you’re feeling uncomfortable or unhappy, it’s good to want to make a move and go somewhere else. You may get flak from others, but the only person whose opinion matters is yours.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
Libra, you are someone who is always trying to keep the peace and make sure everyone else is happy. While this is all fine and good, you’re forgetting the most important person: yourself.
When you hate your job, the one thing you need to do before all else is be selfish. At this point in your career, there’s nothing wrong with putting yourself and your happiness first.
If you don’t, you run the risk of agreeing to something that makes your boss happy without you ever getting what you want in life. It’s your life – don’t let someone else live it for you!
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Nothing good ever comes from keeping your true feelings to yourself – about anything, Scorpio. If you’re unhappy about your job, vent about it! Just be careful who you talk to because it could very well come back to the wrong person.
My point is, venting can help relieve some of the stress that comes with being in a not-so-great situation. It won’t necessarily help you enjoy your job more, but it will definitely give you a chance to talk about how you really feel instead of keeping it to yourself.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
You are one of the most honest zodiac signs, Sagittarius. You've never been one to keep the truth to yourself, whether it was for your own sake or someone else’s. If you hate your job, now is the time to be honest.
Schedule a meeting with your boss or supervisor and tell them what you’re feeling. Brace yourself – this will be a tough conversation neither one of you probably wants to have. But if there’s something that can be changed or modified to make the situation better, wouldn’t you want to figure that out? Of course, you would!
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
When we’re overwhelmed with being in a situation that makes us unhappy, sometimes we totally forget to assess our situation. We jump straight to “I hate my job” thoughts that we forget that sometimes, there are things we can do right away that can help alleviate some of the stress we’re feeling.
If you hate your job, Capricorn, assess your situation before you do anything else. Is it your boss or colleagues that are making you unhappy? Is it the actual work or just the environment you’re in? Once you figure out the specifics, you can make more informed decisions for your future in or out of your current company.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
It sounds kind of lame, Aquarius, but sometimes the best thing to do when you hate your job is to change your perspective. Sure, you might not like the way your boss runs things, but maybe it’s not their fault, but someone else’s.
That’s not to say that you should place blame on someone else, but trying to keep a positive mindset and looking for alternative ways to cope will make you NOT want to bang your head against a wall every single day you go to work. Keep your chin up until you can make a change, Aquarius.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
One thing you tend to do with a lot of things in your life, Pisces, is suffer for your work. You might not like to admit it, but you can be a martyr – sometimes, for no seemingly good reason.
Just because you hate your job doesn’t mean you have to suffer and stay there for the rest of your life. If you’re unhappy, QUIT! No one says you have to be at a job you hate for so many years before you can leave.
If you hate something, no one is going to give you a gold medal for toughing it out. Life is too short to be unhappy, Pisces. Do what makes you want to get up every morning with a smile on your face.
