TLC's hit reality show 90 Day Fiancé explores all of the challenges that can arise when you aren't just getting married, you're leaving your country and your friends and your family and placing all your bets on this new person you've met. Tiffany and Ronald are two stars of the new spin-off 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, here's what you need to know. Are Tiffany and Ronald still together?
1. The Other Way
TLC's popular show, 90 Day Fiancé traditionally follows this format: An American has met a non-American who they would like to marry. Said non-American moves to the United States on a K-1 visa while the couple decides if they have what it takes to go the distance and actually become man and wife. The show is so successful that is has spawned all sorts of other shows - 90 Day Fiancé: After The 90 Days, 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, stuff like that. Their newest incarnation of the show flips the paradigm, with Americans falling for non-Americans and deciding to move across the world themselves. Two people on this show are Tiffany and Ronald.
2. How They Met
Tiffany, 27, and Ronald, 29 met when Tiffany left her home stateside to visit South Africa. She was hoping for a little bit of rest and relaxation as she explored a new place, but she wound up getting a whole lot more than she bargained for when she met native South African, Robert. Before she knew what was happening, she was falling for the guy. The connection that Tiffany felt with Ronald was intense and their relationship moved quickly with the ticking clock of her vacation looming over both of them. Eventually, Tiffany and Robert realized that they wanted to be together forever, and Tiffany started doing the legwork of uprooting her whole life and moving to South Africa with her eight-year-old son, Daniel.
3. Chemistry
As you can imagine, there's a lot at stake when you decide to give up everything you know and move across the globe to live with and marry a man you haven't known for very long. While some people might think it sounds crazy, Tiffany and Ronald think it's the logical thing to do in the face of their intense romantic connection. “Me and him just had so much chemistry,” she explained. “I went back to South Africa six months later and on that trip, he actually proposed to me on that same cliff that he took me [the first night]. I was so happy. I never felt like this in my entire life.” It's clear that Tiffany has intense feelings for Ronald, but will they be enough?
4. Gambling Addiction
Unfortunately, however strong that connection might be, it doesn't erase the fact that these two are still getting to know each other. Trust is a hard thing to build between two people in the best circumstances, but Robert certainly doesn't make it easy for Tiffany by hiding the fact that he has a serious gambling addiction and only recently completed rehab. “You’re going to blame me for having trust issues with you,” she says to him in a promo for the show while she sobs. “When you [bleep] did all the [bleep] you did? If you can’t do what I need from you so that I can be okay, then it’s not going to work.”
5. Her Son
“It’s not just me deciding whether I can live in South Africa, it’s also my son Daniel,” she also says in the promo. “I just can’t shake the feeling that there is something I still don’t know about Ronald.” Tiffany is right to have her guard up because she's not just uprooting her own life, she's uprooting her eight-year-old's entire world, too. As a parent trying to find love it can be hard to balance caring for your child and making sure that you don't neglect your own needs, either. Tiffany's gut is right about Robert, and it doesn't just stop at his gambling addiction, either. The man also has a criminal record he's kept hidden from Tiffany. That's a big deal to hide from any partner, let alone one with a child.
