Nowadays, this is more true than ever before, especially because of how some of the world's biggest personalities are happy to share personal details about their lives on social media making us all feel like we're truly a part of the action.
CNN news anchor Don Lemon doesn't often hold anything back, and when it came to sharing some pretty exciting personal news on social media this weekend, he made absolutely no exception. Keep reading to find out what his boyfriend Tim Malone did, and how it will change both of their lives forever.
1. The big announcement
Spring seems to finally be here, and should you doubt this and the warmer weather still isn't something that you trust completely, I'm here with proof. Because spring is the season of love and romance (sorry, Valentine's Day, but you know it's true). A recent announcement making the rounds on social media is living proof.
You see, CNN Anchor and resident bad-a** Don Lemon got engaged! I know! I squealed too. It all happened this Saturday when Lemon was pleased as punch to announce his engagement to his boyfriend Tim Malone. He, of course, said yes (it would be mad awkward to share about it on social media if he hadn't, lol) and he even let us in on a personal detail: his dog was involved in the proposal!
2. How it happened

As you might expect just from seeing him on the news, Lemon is a bit of a romantic. Obviously, his partner (and soon to be his partner in life) knew this when he planned his proposal. You can bet this wasn't a casual, hanging out in bed reading the newspaper kind of proposal, either. Tim really went above and beyond to make the moment memorable and meaningful for both men.
“In his social posts about saying yes, he gushed about just how sweet and thoughtful the man he's going to marry really. "He [Malone] gave me a present on his birthday. How could I say no?” shared Lemon, age 53 as the caption to his lovely post on Instagram, which featured a tag for his dog which read simply one important question: “Daddy, will you marry Papa?”

Don Lemon wasn't the only person bubbling with delight at their newly engaged status either! Tim Malone, his 35-year-old fiance (and real estate agent) also couldn't wait to get to posting so that all of his friends, family members, and Don's fans could hear about the big news. He posted a simple pic of the dog tags and captioned it simply: “He said YES!”
The couple shares a passion for politics and history for sure, but lest you think they are too high-brow to get down in the muck, they have another interest that has kept them joined at the hip: They are both deeply passionate about their dogs. After sharing a snap where the couple was seriously discussing their dogs' bowel movements, Tim commented: “These are our conversations 50% of the time. Can’t think of anything more fun to talk about."
4. Ready for the plunge

Whenever a couple finally decides to get engaged, even the least nosy people can't help but wonder: are these two really ready to take their relationship to the next "til death do us part" level? Here's the answer is obvious: Lemon and Malone have been dating for well over two years, and while they may have an age difference that doesn't seem to have slowed them down in the least.
It helps that Malone has a thriving career independent of his partner, so jealously over public attention doesn't seem like it will be an issue. Before settling at the Corcoran group to work in real estate, Malone was all over the place, even briefly working a stint at NBC as a production assistant and working on the marketing team at Jukin.

If you're going to marry someone as confident and someone so utterly in the public eye, you have to have a thick skin, and if you're going to be with Don Lemon, that goes double. Lemon made history when he opened his 2018 broadcast by saying "This is CNN Tonight, I'm Don Lemon. The President of The United States is racist," words he knew needed to be said.
This isn't the only time that Lemon has courted controversy. As an openly gay black man on a major news network, he's had to endure many personal attacks. But none of them have ever weakened him or frightened him into silence. He even has gone so far as to discuss the sexual abuse he endured as a child. Bold stuff indeed!
