Who Is Erika Koike? New Details About Nicolas Cage's Girlfriend Who He Married — Then Divorced Four Days Later
He just had the marriage annulled.
Nicolas Cage got married — and then got the marriage annulled four days later.
The controversial 55-year-old actor filed for a marriage license with his girlfriend, Erika Koike, while in Las Vegas on Wednesday. They received their marriage certificate later that same day, according to PEOPLE.
While a spontaneous Vegas wedding might be a dream to some, it wasn't a wedding that was built to last for this couple. Cage filed for an annulment four days later.
Cage's rep did not respond for comment, and the couple has been pretty low-key ever since they started dating April 2018. They were photographed together while on vacation in Puerto Rico and were spotted again together in May 2018 while having dinner in Los Angeles.
So who is Erika Koike? Here's everything we know about Nicolas Cage's girlfriend.
1. She has a record.
Koike didn't come into her new marriage with a squeaky clean record. The 34-year-old makeup artist pled no contest to not one, but two DUI charges in L.A. One was in 2008 and the other was in 2011.
As punishment, she was put on probation and had to perform community service. She also had to attend AA meetings along with an 18-month long alcohol and other drug education and counseling program.
But it doesn't stop there.
Koike received another DUI charge in Las Vegas, ironically enough, in 2016. She pled not guilty and will return to court in June.
2. She was married before.
Koike was previously married, and according to court records, it was not a peaceful relationship.
She was also charged with domestic violence against her husband in 2006. It was later dismissed due to a lack of evidence, but Koike still felt the need to take out a protective order against her ex-husband.
In 2014, they finally split.
3. She was also arrested for battery.
In 2015, she was reportedly in an altercation with a neighbor who sued her for assault and battery a year later.
According to records, the neighbor claimed that Koike punched her in the face while they were in a dark parking lot. The lawsuit was later dismissed.
4. They fought hours after their quickie wedding.
TMZ photographed the newlyweds just hours after their wedding leaving the Bellagio hotel and looking very not happy with each other. Witnesses said she was yelling at him.
The news outlet also reported that they had been fighting just before they got married. Annulment documents later revealed that they were highly intoxicated when they got hitched (shocker).
"[Erika] suggested to [Nic] that they should marry, [Nic] reacted on impulse and without the ability to recognize or understand the full impact of his actions."
5. He thought the marriage was a fraud.
The documents also revealed that Cage believed the marriage to be a fraud because Koikie didn't disclose "the full nature and extent of her relationship with another person," or her criminal history.
He also said that they had "such conflict in personalities and dispositions that are so deep as to render the two incompatible in marriage."
If it had stuck, this would have been Cage's fourth marriage. His first wife was actress Patricia Arquette. They married in 1995 and divorced in 2001. In 2002, he married Lisa Marie Presley, but they split up within a year, with their divorce being finalized in 2003.
And his third wife was Alice Kim. They were married in 2004 and stayed together for 12 years before splitting up in 2016. They have one son together, Kal-El. Cage spoke about his divorce in 2018.
“It was a shocker for me — I definitely didn’t see it coming and those feelings had to go somewhere, so they went into the performance.”
"And now it’s like, wow, I’m 54 and I’m single again, I didn’t see that coming!” he added. “It’s pretty grim.”
