Who Is Bob Casey Jr.'s Wife? New Details On Terese Foppiano Casey
They are college sweethearts.
Since 2006, Bob Casey Jr. has served as a U.S. Senator from the state of Pennsylvania. But this isn’t his first rodeo in politics; he was previously the Pennsylvania Auditor General, as well as the Pennsylvania Treasurer. His father, Bob Casey Sr., is the former Governor of Pennsylvania. He defeated Rick Santorum in the 2006 election, and won another term in 2012.
Though he is a Democrat, he disagrees with most of his party on a few key issues. Casey is pro-life and expressed his desire to overturn Roe v. Wade. He also voted for bills that would have banned abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, joining two fellow Democrats, Joe Manchin and Joe Donnelly. He does, however, support same-sex marriage and voted for the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
But aside from his views on social issues, he’s supported increased federal investment in alternative fuels, opposes drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and recognizes the dangers of global warming.
He’s opposed to school vouchers and believes in the availability of affordable education for children; he was also a voice against Secretary of Education donating to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), which “seeks to defend individual rights on college campuses.” Specifically, he was concerned about DeVos’ ethical views of sexual assaults on campus.
He was initially a staunch supporter of gun rights, but after the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012, his views flipped. Since then, he has voted for proposals to counter gun violence, renew the ban on assault weapons, and enhance background checks for individuals looking to purchase firearms. After the Pulse shooting in Orlando, he introduced the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which “would have prevented persons convicted of hate crimes from purchasing weapons.”
But what do we know about his personal life? Does his family share his views, or do they challenge him on key issues? Specifically, who is Bob Casey Jr.'s wife? Here are four details to know about Terese Foppiano Casey.
1. They met in college.
While attending College of the Holy Cross and majoring in economics and accounting major, Terese met her future husband. Both graduated in 1982.
2. They’ve been married for 33 years.
The two wed in 1985, three years after graduating college. And they just celebrated their anniversary back in May.
3. They have four kids.
The couple are parents to four daughters: Elyse, Caroline, Julia and Marena.
4. She’s a former accountant.
Though Terese was an accountant, she became a stay-at-home mom after the birth of their first child. Her husband’s political career also played a role in their decision.
“It was our choice that I would stay home with the girls. It’s very hard when one parent has to be gone a lot, as politicians are. Many people need or want to work outside the home, and imposing our choice on them is not something Bob would ever dream of doing,” she said.
