Sad New Details About The Florida Teen Who Murdered His Mom After They Argued Over Grades
He staged a home invasion.
A 15-year-old Florida boy who reported his mother missing is now charged with her murder.
Gregory Logan Ramos called 911 after school Friday, claiming his house had been burglarized and his mother was gone. The burglars probably took her, he told Volusia County police.
But investigators said the teen's story didn't "add up." When they questioned him further, Ramos confessed to killing his mom, WFTV reports.
Ramos told authorities he and his mother, 46-year-old Gail Cleavenger, got into an argument over his grades Thursday when she found out he received a "D" in a class, according to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
Ramos said he entered his mother's room around 12.30 a.m. Friday morning, strangled her for about 30 minutes until she died, and then put her body in a wheelbarrow and loaded her into the family car. The boy drove to River City Church in DeBary, just north of Orlando, and buried his lifeless mother beneath a fire pit, he told detectives.
"He was very proud of his work and he wanted to show it off,” Chitwood said at a news conference said. “To watch how cold and callous he was when talking about it was the most shocking thing to me."
In his "full and detailed confession," Chitwood said Ramos admitted to recruited two close friends to help stage a burglary. Those friends, 17-year-olds Dylan Ceglarek and Brian Porras, are in custody and facing multiple criminal charges. Police recovered multiple electronics, including a computer, PlayStation 4 and rifle, the juveniles stowed when staging the robbery to cover up Ramos' crime.
According to Ramos, his two friends also helped him dispose of Cleavinger's body.
After burying Ramos' mother, the three went to a Circle K for some sodas and discussed their cover story.
Ramos went to school Friday but left early, a detail that made authorities doubt the boy's story. He told police he rode the bus home, but school attendance records show Ramos left early and did not take the bus.
“Then he got home and made, in his words, a ‘Grammy-winning phone call’ to 9-1-1 to talk about this horrible incident that did not really occur,” Chitwood said of Ramos' emergency call.
Ceglarek and Porras led authorities to Cleavinger's body, which was buried 8-inches deep.
Chitwood said Ramos was among the "top three sociopaths" he has ever encountered in his life.
“He had no sign of remorse," he said. "He was a soulless individual who thought he was the smartest person in the room.”
Ramos and his friends made their first appearance in front of a judge Sunday. Ramos is being detained at the Department of Juvenile Justice. Ceglarek and Porras received orders of home confinement with electronic monitoring.
Chitwood is pushing for Ramos to be tried as an adult.
