Who Is Jeanne Shaheen's Husband? New Details On Bill Shaheen
They've been married almost 50 years.
Since 2008, Jeanne Shaheen has served as a U.S. Senator from New Hampshire, but her list of accomplishments doesn’t end there. Before joining the Senate, she served two terms in the New Hampshire Senate, was Governor of the state, and was Director of the Harvard Institute of Politics.
Not only is she highly accomplished, but she’s also the first woman to be elected from New Hampshire, and the first woman to be elected as both a Governor and a U.S. Senator.
Like most Democrats, she was against Brett Kavanaugh being nominated and later sworn in as the newest Supreme Court Justice. She underscored the importance of an FBI investigation and believing sexual assault survivors.
But aside from her political career, what is there to know about her family life? Exactly who is Jeanne Shaheen’s husband and how has he dealt with having a wife in the Senate? Here are 6 things to know about Bill Shaheen.
1. They’ve been married for almost 50 years.
The couple wed in 1969 and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago! How’s that for lasting love?
2. They have three kids.
The couple are parents to three daughters: Stefany, Stacy, and Molly.
3. He’s an attorney.
And he’s been practicing for roughly 42 years. Shaheen got his start in law by working closely with a judge, focusing primarily on civil litigation. In 1977, President Carter appointed him as the U.S. Attorney of New Hampshire, which he held for four years, later joining a practice and becoming a District Court Judge.
4. He and Jeanne owned a jewelry business.
The couple were partial owners of a shop called Bill & Bob’s in Maine, which they helped run from 1969 to 1977. After selling their shares, the company ran into legal trouble under its new management, and authorities eventually investigated the co-owner, Shaheen’s brother-in-law, for buying stolen jewelry.
5. He’s also a Democrat.
After a red wave during the 2010 elections, Shaheen used this as a wake-up call for fellow Democrats, saying, “After the 2010 election, New Hampshire got a taste of what the tea party can do, and it’s not happy... We're not proud of what has been going on in the state capitol, and we’re getting ready. We let our guard down in 2010, but we’ve come too far to go back.”
6. The couple is quite wealthy.
An ad produced by the conservative group, Ending Spending Action Fund, claimed that Shaheen has gained a large amount of wealth while serving in public office. Though she said the ad was false, there are estimates that she had a net worth of $3.4 million before being elected to the Senate and was $5.4 million in 2012, a significant increase.
