getty Since 2002, John Cornyn has served as a U.S. Senator from Texas, and is currently the Senate Majority Whip. He was previously Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and before starting his political career, from 1985 to 1991, he was a judge on the Texas 37th District Court, and associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1991 to 1997.
Cornyn was also the Attorney General of Texas for one term, from 1998 to 2002, until he won a seat in the Senate. But he’s probably most noted for his unwavering support of Brett Kavanaugh and Republicans’ attempts to confirm him to the U.S. Supreme Court. Most recently, he compared their fight to that of Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird.

Mrs. Cornyn was born in San Antonio, Texas, and the family currently lives in Austin.

Wow, what a way to meet! In 1977, when Cornyn was 25 and Sandy (then Hansen) was 28, the two were set up on a date. Clearly, they really hit it off!
3. They’ve been married for almost 40 years.
Two years after meeting, they wed in 1979. How’s that for lasting love? The couple has two grown daughters named Danley and Haley.
4. She’s very active.
Sandy is a member of multiple groups and clubs. She’s currently the Treasurer of the Spouses of the Senate Club, which meets weekly. She also belongs to the International Club I — made of spouses of members from all three branches of government — and is a member of the Congressional Families Action for Cancer Awareness. In addition, she’s in the Texas Federation of Republican Women and the Austin Republican Women’s Club.
