How To Finally Find 'The One,' According To Astrology
Love is in the stars.

Finding love, specifically someone you can see yourself with for the long haul, can be an incredibly daunting task. Dating can be tough on its own, and then even if you find someone you connect with, you may notice differences and "dealbreakers" over time that can cause you two to split. All of that emotional stress can take a toll! Could only putting in effort with those you're compatible with, according to astrology, help in weeding out the good from the bad and increasing your chances of success?
We spoke with an astrologer to get the scoop on how knowing more about your sign can help you find a partner. Here's why using astrology matchmaking could be the secret sauce to finding your soulmate.
How Does Astrology Work?
It can be a little complex, as there are several factors at play, so speaking to an astrologer to first understand your sign's qualities can help. "Venus, of course, coexists with other planets and relationship elements," said Joshua MacGuire, a psychic, astrologer, and life coach in Los Angeles, to POPSUGAR.
"Your moon sign denotes your emotional needs; your Mars shows your passionate, sexual style; your Mercury shows how you communicate; and your Jupiter shows how you expand. All things considered (including rulerships, house placements, and aspects) can be analyzed with another's chart to find the right relationship and deepen and sustain one," he said.
Which Signs Are Most Compatible?
While it's best to think of all these factors, just by looking at the sun sign, which is what you're most familiar with when describing yourself as an Aquarius or a Leo, can give some insight as to whether you'll get along. Taking moon into consideration can lead to some contradictions in compatibility, as you may connect well with someone on that deeper level.
The sun sign is your basic personality, your ego, and how you center yourself, whereas the moon sign describes your inner emotional life, your deep needs, and your hidden side that you don't easily show most people, he explained.
"This question is like nails on a chalkboard for most astrologers because there's so much more to consider than just the sun sign," he said. "In general, though, Fire and Air signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius; and Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini) go well together, while Water and Earth signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces; and Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo) get along well."
The other combinations are less compatible generally, but this idea is constantly contradicted. The whole chart has to be taken into consideration for astrology to really be an effective matchmaker. "An Aries with a Taurus moon, for instance, may get along famously with a Virgo, though their sun signs are not considered particularly compatible," he explained.
Still, here's how using astrology matchmaking can help you find your match.

They Can Mark Likes and Dislikes
If you know common traits and dissimilarities based on your zodiac sign, or sun aspect, you'll get a few hints. "Pisces typically like to dream and escape, for instance. This can drive a down-to-earth Taurus mad, or be exactly the fantastical element they need to balance out their life," he said.
Here's another example. "Depending on the other elements in the chart, a Sagittarius may have a tough time with a Taurus: the Sagittarius may need freedom and adventure, while the Taurus wants security, consistency, and dependability," he said. The couple will have to reconcile their contrasting needs.
And another: "A partner with strong Sagittarius or Aries in their chart may clash with someone with strong Libra. The Sagittarius or Aries person may be quite brash and in-your-face, which can present a problem with Libra's elevated sensibilities and desire for diplomacy," he said. They'll have to understand each other's defaults, make compromises, and be understanding, which takes work.
For the more advanced reading, "if a woman's Mars is in Leo, she's going to like men who have a sunny disposition, are generous, magnanimous, and even entertaining. A Leo man would be great for her, because he embodies those traits she finds appealing," he said.
Similarly, if a man's Venus, which depicts the qualities he finds attractive in a woman, is in Aquarius, he's going to like women who are smart, cool, and a little detached, which marks the Aquarius nature. "Though smart, Scorpio women tend to be pretty emotional and intense, so they may not be the best match for him; she might only send two texts in a row or question why he was late, and he might see her as a bunny boiler," he said.
They Can Help You Tackle Common Problems
Astrologers can help you see common problems that could arise, based on each other's tendencies and chart reading, and then offer tips to overcome the obstacles.
"For instance, say a man has his moon in Sagittarius, and the woman has her moon in Taurus. This could create a conflict because he emotionally needs freedom and adventure, and she emotionally needs security, consistency, and dependability," he said.
Here's another one. "Say an Aquarius and Libra were dating for quite some time. Aquarius values freedom and Libra rules marriage. An astrologer is likely to see how the Libra is going to want a deeper commitment than the Aquarian feels comfortable giving," he said. With such knowledge, the two can see themselves from a broader perspective, which can help them reconcile their differences and avoid a battle of wills.
They Explain Patterns You're Likely to Have
Signs have certain habits and loves, and so finding those loves in a partner is key. Astrologers can help you figure out in which signs you'll most likely find those traits. Similarly, astrologers can help you know the patterns you're going to exhibit, so you can work on tuning in and changing them or finding a relationship based on those needs.
"Libras, for instance, have a penchant for unrequited love. If a Libra realizes this, she can catch what she's doing and consider whether she really wants a relationship or is in love with just the idea of being in love. With astrological knowledge comes the power to change the pattern," he said.
Here's another example: "Virgos can sometimes be chronic complainers. If a Virgo realizes he does this and why, he can start being more unconditionally accepting of himself, which will make him more tolerant of his partner," he said.
And if Scorpios, for instance, realize they have a desire for extremes, they can push their limits in healthy ways (artistically, physically) and not create a theater of war with their mate to express this side of themselves.
Sagittarians have a tendency to wander. If a Sagittarius realizes that they have an innate need to discover and explore, they can travel the world with their partner to fulfill that need, not seek out exciting affairs with other women.
It's all about finding the right type of person to fit into your lifestyle and goals. Using astrology may give you some insight into yourself and into your partner to really make a relationship work.
