Who Is Mollie Tibbetts' Dad? New Details On Rob Tibbetts — And What He Knows
The missing college student's dead body was found this morning.
Who is Mollie Tibbetts dad, Rob Tibbetts? The tragic story of the 20-year old University of Iowa student who disappeared without a trace last month came to a sad end this morning.
Police reported that they found a body believed to be Tibbetts and her father confirmed it was his daugter this morning.
Mollie Tibbetts went missing on July 18th around 7:30 pm after going for a routine jog in the neighborhood where her boyfriend lived while she was dogsitting. Her boyfriend and his brother — who also lived at the residence — were ruled out as suspects shortly after she disappeared. Investigators have followed hundreds of leads trying to find Mollie, including searching a hog farm, but so far no arrests have been made in the case.
Here is what we know about her father, Rob Tibbetts:
1. He pleaded to the public after she went missing.
After learning about his daughter's disappearance, Tibbetts pleaded with the public to help in any way possible to find his daughter. "The bottom line is somebody knows something," Rob Tibbetts told Fox News, adding Brooklyn, Iowa is a small city and “you can’t do anything there without someone seeing it.”
2. He remained optimistic that she was alive.
“It's totally speculation on my part but I think Mollie is with someone that she knows that is in over their head,” he told Fox News. “That there was some kind of misunderstanding about the nature of their relationship and at this point they don't know how to get out from under this.”
3. He was reluctant to leave Iowa in case his daughter was returned.
Tibbetts is a marketing executive who lives in Fresno, California. He did not want to leave Iowa in case his daughter returned home. "Very reluctantly, I'm being told I sort of need to do this," Rob Tibbetts told ABC affiliate KCRG, "We've called this sort of a halftime, a break."
4. He believed she was still alive.
"We'll still find Mollie and bring her home, and I still feel that way. We all still feel that way," he said. "That's why it's difficult for me to leave, knowing that there's a good chance we're going to bring her home, and I want to be there when she arrives."
5. He pleaded with her captor to let her go.
Tibbetts believed Mollie was kidnapped and begged the captor to do the right thing. “You’ve made a mistake. We’ve all made mistakes. Don’t compound this,” he told ABC. “Work your way through this. Listen to Mollie.”
6. He said she was spiritual and wanted people to pray for her.
“Mollie’s very spiritual, and so is her brother Scott and so we talked about that quite a bit,” Tibbetts told Fox News.
7. Mollie and her father were extremely close.
Rob recently got remarried and Mollie was his "best man". Mollie even tweeted a heartfelt message about how her father was her #1.
