1. Mara and Jonathan are both actors.
Jonathan, an Irish actor, is known for starring in TV series such as Vikings, Roots, and The Tudors. Mara, an actor from the U.S., has appeared in many short films as well as TV series like Love Struck and Modern Music.
Both members of the couple worked on the 2017 film Damascus Cover; Jonathan was one of the stars and Mara was a co-producer for the film.
2. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was arrested following a “domestic dispute.”
On July 8, 2018, police detained Jonathan at Los Angeles International Airport following a “domestic dispute” onboard an American Airlines flight. According to Page Six, Los Angeles Police indicated that the incident stemmed from Meyers’ use of a vape pen, which is against airline regulations, and subsequent combative statements made by Meyers toward his wife and the flight crew when they told him to put it away.
A passenger who claims to have been sitting near Meyers in first-class described the incident to The Daily Mail. “[The flight crew] told [Mara] that if [Jonathan] didn’t stop using the e-cigarette we’d have to land the plane early and get him off so she tried to tell him that,” said the passenger. “That’s when he really lost it, he was yelling at her ‘f*** you, shut the f*** up, I’m divorcing you when I get back, you’re annoying leave me the f*** alone.’ Then he was ranting and screaming: ‘Who says I'm using e-cigarettes? Who? Who? Show me who said it.’”
3. Jonathan has battled alcoholism for many years.
For years, Jonathan’s longtime battle with alcoholism has played out in public view. According to The Daily Mail, the actor went to rehab on three separate occasions between 2005 and 2009.
More recently, Jonathan was detained by security officers at Dublin Airport last September after appearing intoxicated and staggering around the terminal. An eyewitness described Jonathan’s behavior during the ordeal to Mirror: “He was staggering around for a good while. He wasn’t causing any hassle with anyone, he just seemed to be really intoxicated. It was very sad to see him like this.”
Alcoholism also affected Jonathan’s mother, Geraldine, prior to her death in 2007.
4. The couple has one child together.
The couple’s only child, a son named Wolf Rhys Meyers, was born in December 2016. Prior to this, Mara had shared photos of her baby bump on Instagram, reflecting her excitement for the baby’s arrival.

7. Mara has been supportive of Jonathan despite recent conflicts.
Despite Jonathan’s struggles in recent years, Mara has remained supportive of him. In her most recent Instagram post, Mara discussed the incident that led to Jonathan’s detention at LAX and expressed her hope that her husband will be able to work through his struggles with anger and alcohol addiction.
“J IS extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone traveling yesterday,” said Mara in the post. “We are home safe and he is feeling deeply sorry for any remote disrespect afforded to me, attendants, onlookers or officers. Thank you for your compassion on this ongoing battle with addiction we are in.”
