26 Surprising Uses For Hypnotherapy (It's Nothing Like You See On TV!)
Put away the swinging watch.
Let me guess what you think about when you think of hypnotherapy — quit smoking and lose weight, right?
Well, it does work for those things, but that is leaving a whole host of other surprising uses for hypnotherapy out.
In fact, there are more things hypnotherapy helps than it doesn't help.
Hypnotherapy has been around, at least, since the 1400’s. It’s evolved since then but it is one of the few things in medical and transformational history that doesn't change with the trends. It isn't the next best thing or the new shiny pill. It has proven itself over and over and at this time, hypnotherapy is making its rise to the top of mainstream awareness once again.
Why hasn't it remained top of mind all along?
Well, you can thank Hollywood and fake news for that.
Years ago (and for years) Hollywood portrayed hypnosis as this eerie spooky voodoo like practice all done at the hands of charlatans. You know, with the swinging watches and black and white spirals. Parents warned their kids and those kids told their friends. And the people who had transformational results using hypnotherapy were afraid to say anything.
So the world got quiet around hypnotherapy.
But after seeing years of remedies and tactics not working, new drugs, more illness, and a greater understanding of the mind, hypnosis has found its place once again. It’s the all natural state of being and the best state to create the lasting change you want in your life.
You know that feeling when you’re on the road and your car seems to drive you? Or that daydreaming you did in school when it felt like you were listening to Charlie Brown’s teacher? That’s hypnosis.
No, you will not cluck like a chicken (unless you want to) and no, you will not levitate.
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach designed to deliver specific results based on individual needs. That means that whatever your issue is, it is being dealt with directly. It's not a band-aid or a pill that covers up symptoms but a very specific process to heal the presenting problems.
Hypnotherapists (like myself) guide you in removing the garbage or baggage as I call it. We help to remove fears, limiting beliefs and old negative programs and replace them with resource states and empowering beliefs that support your purpose and direction in life.
Consider it like ‘malware’ on your brain. If you don’t wipe your computer software clean it gets buggy or a virus and will eventually quit working. This happens in our brain and is often why we have brain fog.
There are many uses for hypnotherapy but I’m not going to name them all because you’ll be reading for days. But, here are 26 that are worth knowing. The first 16 are general and the last 10 are medical:
- Parenting (Yes, indeed! As long as you are mired in your past programming, you are going to burden your children with them. That right there is what creates conflict. It isn't about what your kid says to you or the fact they put a hole in the wall.)
- Relationships
- Creating Boundaries
- Letting go of the past
- Communication
- Forgiveness
- Empathy toward another
- Self-discipline
- Self-control/regulate
- Managing emotions
- Negative thinking/self-talk
- Finding your purpose
- Finding your strengths
- Learning a new skill
- Study habits
- Sports performance (Any performance!)
- Depression
- Anxiety
- PTSD
- Migraines
- Asthma
- IBS
- Tinnitus
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Symptoms related to cancer
- Pain control (Even during childbirth — called a Hypnobirth.)
While this is a short list, hypnotherapy has also shown to have incredible results with diseases like MS, MD, and Cerebral Palsy.
The premise is the mind-body connection.
