People tend to generalize about others that they don’t know that well. They might think you’re snotty because you grew up in an upscale area. What they don’t know is that your parents struggled to keep your family afloat which makes you grateful for almost everything.
If someone had a girlfriend that looked similar to you, they may assume that your personalities are the same, too. We all have expectations of people, and sometimes these expectations have very little to do with the person but with our own experiences, histories, and backgrounds. It’s nearly impossible not to look at people with a neutral eye.
But when people make assumptions about us, it puts us at a disadvantage. How can you be your authentic self when others are loading you down with a bunch of preconceived notions that have very little to do with you?
It can take a lot of effort to change someone’s mind when they’ve already decided they know exactly who you are.
People can be judgmental — it’s just the way they’re wired which can make it frustrating when you want them to see you without judgment and prejudice. Physical characteristics can also give people false ideas about us. People who have green eyes are jealous, someone with red hair probably has a hot temper, and everyone knows what long fingers on a man mean.

People tend to think you're mean. You don't mean to be unkind but you have very little patience and tend to be blunt. When you say what's on your mind it comes across as harsh and unforgiving. If someone isn't going at the speed you'd like them to, you let them know it whether it's by rolling your eyes or doing a dramatic sigh. You're not mean but your self-centered attitude can make you appear to be an assh*le.
