weheartit Do you know that the world once existed with no social media? I know it doesn’t seem real but it’s true. Phones were landlocked, computers were heavy, and people shared their lives in person, by talking to each other. It was a strange time.
Now, it’s rare that person doesn’t have some kind of social media account. Even the weirdos I know who refuse to have Facebook accounts comment on IMDB message boards or answer questions on Quora, which counts, although they’d vehemently deny it.

Social media is a huge part of our lives, whether we’re cyberstalking our exes, promoting our fabulous lives, or just trying to not feel lonely. Social media is there when we need it and when we don’t. It helps us keep in touch with family, people that we went to school with, ex-coworkers, and old partners.
We call social media a time suck — and it is — but it’s such an enjoyable one. How easy is it to get sucked into the rabbit hole of YouTube videos or get so involved in a comment stream that you lose all track of time?
However, social media isn’t real life, no matter how honest and personal some people may get on there and it’s best not to make any decisions based on your reactions to things. It can get very political and relationships can be tested.
But on the other hand, I’ve seen people rally together to help people in need or to offer comfort. But I sometimes need to remind myself that while someone’s social media presence can get on my nerves, I really like them in real life and that deleting or unfriending them would be a mistake.
