The Truth About Why Khloé Kardashian & Lamar Odom Are STILL Married

In a heartbreaking twist on an already devastating ordeal, Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odom are still married.

The NBA star is currently in a coma following an alleged drug binge at a Las Vegas brothel (you can read all the details here), and Kardashian is legally responsible for making his medical decisions despite the couple separating up in August 2013 after nearly four years of marriage. Kardashian and Odom filed for divorce officially in July, but due to a backlog in petitions in the court, the paperwork has yet to be finalized by a judge. Kardashian is understandably crushed and flew to Odom's side within hours of his hospitalization, joined by mother Kris Jenner and sister Kim Kardashian-West. Reports say that Kardashian has also flown out Odom's two children, Destiny and Lamar Odom Jr., as well as their mother, Liza Morales, and Odom's own father, Joe Odom. 

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, Keeping Up With The Kardashians cameras are not at the hospital at this time, for multiple reasons: One, that would be, seriously, The. Worst. Two, the show isn't currently filming, so there wouldn't be a crew assembled. Three, the logistics of getting a film crew clearance at a hospital would be difficult. And just for good measure, it would, again, be The. WORST.

Odom has had a life rife with tragedy, especially within the last decade: His trials have included an allegedly absentee father, the death of one of his sons, an accidental vehicular death of a pedestrian while Odom was en route to the funeral of his murdered cousin (Odom was not the driver), and battling drug addiction. Any one of those would be a tremendously difficult burden for anyone to bear, but to combine them all under the magnifying glass of fame can create an almost unfathomably tortured soul out of even the most well-adjusted human being.

For all the vitriol that the Kardashian family gets regularly, Odom has repeatedly insisted that they're the only true family he's ever known, even in the wake of his split from Khloé. The fact that they're handling something so crushing with this much grace and dignity speaks volumes about them: Behind the cameras, the cash, and the brand lies a heart. Maybe we can give the tired slut-shaming and fat jokes a rest for a while and let them have peace.
