Turns Out Looks Don't Really Matter, Says Science

Well, this is surprising.

You know that common adage: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? That saying has never rung truer than now.

Remember when you used to gush over a really hot guy? When you finally snagged him, he ended up being a total douche and you wonder what you ever saw in him?

Well, science now has an answer for you.

After looking at 167 couples who have been together between 3 months to 58 years, researchers scientifically evaluated each participant's attractiveness and compared the results with their significant others.

What did they find?

Couples who got together right after they met matched in attractiveness, whereas those who took their time (stayed friends, went on casual dates) were more mismatched in terms of looks.

In short, the study found that attractiveness does change once we get to know someone. The human race isn't as shallow as we thought, after all.

"Having more time to get acquainted may allow other factors, such as another person's compatibility as a relationship partner, to make that person appealing in ways that outshine more easily observable characteristics such as physical attractiveness," said Lucy Hunt, a researcher at the University of Texas.

"Or, perhaps another person might actually become more attractive in the eyes of the beholder by virtue of these other factors."

So, that hot guy? Sure, he had a handsome face and nice biceps, but his personality was NOT a perfect match.
