Your leadership, as our head of newsletters, is going to be critical to helping YourTango achieve our vast growth ambitions and our desire to positively impact innumerable lives, including helping us future-proof our enterprise, and, critically, endear ourselves to millions of “raving super fans”!

With a global audience of ~70mm readers, viewers and listeners per month, YourTango has been a trailblazer for nearly two decades, building a small empire around love, relationships and empowerment, filling a critical space in the wellness category.

As the leader of our newsletter business and a key member of our overall leadership team, you will be responsible for all aspects of this division’s performance, ie newsletter P&L, editorial, design and UX; marketing and audience acquisition; monetization; and reporting, while, caring deeply about what you and your team are building and how your efforts are impacting our broader business and the lives of our subscribers.

As a performance, process and outcome-centric executive, you have the following responsibilities:

  • Own and oversee the overarching strategy and performance of our NL division where you:
  • Develop, build and own the strategy for growing and improving our existing four newsletters, as well as overseeing the launch of future ones, including establishing and achieving KPIs for user acquisition and monetization
  • Develop and manage daily, weekly, and monthly reporting based on the agreed KPIs
  • Develop a plan for and oversee newsletter monetization
  • Care deeply about the editorial, design and user experience:
  • Work in partnership with the Editorial, Design, Product, and Technology teams to develop and deliver impactful, valuable editorial that engages and grows our NL audience, helping to cultivate a core base of loyal super fans!
  • Nurture all facets of the marketing, tech, analytics, and user acquisition required for a successful NL business
  • Master our ESP’s templating, segmentation, drip, personalization, re-engagement and integrated marketing tools
  • Use analytics and develop actionable insights to optimize and enhance performance including carefully A/B test headlines, subjects, design, and personalization
  • Leverage analytics and partnered technology tools to deeply understand traffic and user behavior
  • Be a superstar leader and colleague!
  • Mentor current members of the Newsletter team & grow the team as a key part of the growth and success strategy
  • Educate the broader organization on direct audience development strategy

I am hoping that you will have most or all of the following qualifications and experiences, having worked at another consumer-facing (B2C) digital publisher, including:

  • 7+ years working in all facets of newsletter development, optimization and monetization for a digital B2C content publisher. This is critical.
  • 10+ years of combined experience at a digital publisher, ie in addition to your NL experience, you worked in editorial, product, marketing or elsewhere in the organization.
  • 5+ years of proven leadership skills, including a successful track record of leading publisher newsletter teams. This is also very, very critical.
  • Facility with Parse.ly, Google Analytics & newsletter ESPs.
  • Deep experience with growth/marketing efforts across several channels (e.g. onsite sign-up modules, placements in other newsletters, lead generation, push notifications, media buying, etc.) to drive newsletter subscription growth.
  • Experience and comfort collaborating across Editorial, Sales, Product, Technology, Social, Video, and Design teams.
  • Excellent organizational, communication & reporting skills.
  • Outstanding problem solving skills. You know things will go wrong or not exactly as planned and don’t stress when this happens; instead, you are ready to dig in and find solutions.
  • A deep-seated curiosity for how to improve workflows, understand what the data says and what will improve performance and delight our users.
  • Excellent skills in listening, synthesizing information and making recommendations and/or taking action as needed.
  • A feeling of accountability for your work and team: you naturally take initiative and feel a true sense of ownership.
  • A strong work ethic. An entrepreneurial spirit is also a big plus here at YourTango!
  • An amazing attitude - including sincere emotional intelligence and the ability to have your ideas or opinions challenged without taking it personally but instead a chance to learn, grow and achieve success!
  • A propensity for the details: you are comfortable slowing down and really digging in.
  • A heartfelt interest in working closely, collaboratively and successfully with a team of people, including leading, mentoring and caring about those who report to you, ideally helping them all rise and thrive!
