About Mathis Kennington
I am a South Texas native who took a brief retreat to the incomparable Blue Ridge Mountains to complete my Ph.D. in couple and family therapy at Virginia Tech. My home, however, will always be the beautiful Texas hill country and vibrant city of Austin. I am a couples therapist in private practice in West Austin and an adjunct professor of couple and family therapy at St. Edward's University, where I teach the University's only course dedicated to treating couples.
I maintain a robust private practice where I specialize in treating couples considering divorce and couples who fight...a lot. I help couples break out of familiar patterns of destructive conflict to rediscover passion and intimacy. I supervise and train the next generation of couple and family therapists in my role as a faculty with the Austin Family Institute, a mental health nonprofit with a 30 year history in the Austin community.
More importantly, I have loved one woman for 12 years, of which I have been married for eight. We live, work, and play in the greatest city in the world.
