How To Use A Vision Board To Manifest Your Career Goals & Land Your Dream Job
Figuring out what to do with your life is easier than you think.
"What should I do with my life?" Isn't that the ultimate question? Doing what you love in life is a wonderful thing, and knowing how to find a job that inspires you can help you achieve happiness in both your personal life and professional one.
Being in a job you hate can drag you down and create unwanted stress and anxiety. The mere thought of work can make you bury your head in the pillow each morning, trip you up in meetings with your boss, and ultimately bring you a performance improvement plan.
What would it mean to you to finally have the career you wanted — financial security? Joy? Meaning?
When you love your work, you feel energized and fulfilled, happy to go to work each day and give your best. This is the ultimate in career happiness.
And the fantastic thing is, you can find that perfect work and learn how to get the job you’ve always wanted once you figure out what you should do with your life.
For help identifying and reaching professional goals, one of the tools I regularly use with my clients is a vision board. A vision board is a place where you hang pictures or inspirational quotes that depict your goals and dreams and help you clarify them.
Many successful superstars like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres swear by them, also. Making my vision board brought me unexpected clarity and confidence to move forward with my career as a coach, and it can do the same for you, too.
If you’ve tried other tactics to figure out what to do with your life without success, now might be the time to open yourself up to the possibilities that a vision board self-discovery will bring. You’ll get crystal clear about what matters to you and what brings you joy, and ultimately, if you use it well, it will work to help you attract what you desire — including your dream job — in time, using the Law of Attraction.
The Law of Attraction "is the belief that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, people can bring positive or negative experiences into their life."In other words, you are capable of manifesting the job that you want by narrowing down what you need and seeking it out with the aid of your vision board.
Here's how to make a vision board that will help you figure out what to do with your life so you can land you dream job using the Law of Attraction.
1. Visualize your dream life.
If you dwell on your crappy job or dead-end career, you’re going to manifest more negativity in your work life. Instead, focus on what you want. Get really clear about what matters to you, what you want to bring into your life, and your ideal outcomes.
Imagining your dream life is not quite as simple as fantasizing about your lottery numbers, but visualizing does work.
It’s no accident that Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Michael Phelps, and Mohammad Ali performed so well. They all used visualization before every event. Jack Nicklaus is widely known to have said: “I never hit a shot, not even in practice, without having a very sharp in-focus picture of it in my head.”
Set aside some time just for you to reflect upon your deepest desires for your future and what kind of work brings you joy. Block out others’ expectations of you and give yourself permission to explore what is right for you.
In your mind, create a picture of what you want in your life, what you want to be doing, and how you want to feel. Take yourself into that perfect work, imagining a day in the life, right down to what you’ll wear, what you’ll do, your colleagues, and the work environment. All of this forms the basis of your vision board and helps you figure out what you should do with your life.
2. Find images that connect to your ideal life.
Once you’re fairly sure about what you want for your next job, it’s time to create your vision board.
Go through a stack of magazines and slowly flip through the pages. It’s not a rational exercise; you lead with your heart and intuition, allowing the images to draw you in.
Linger for a moment longer than you normally would and take in each image and phrase. Rip out anything that resonates with you.
When you’re done flipping and ripping, go through your pile, and narrow it down to what really speaks to you. When I was done, I had phrases like “find your calling” and “find who you have not yet become” and images of how I would feel when I got my dream life.
You’ll be able to stand back and look at your very own masterpiece and allow it to speak directly to you about what you’re meant to do with your life.
3. Live with intention.
Just like in sports psychology, when you have a clear picture of what you want to do, be, have and feel, you’re much more likely to take actions that are in alignment with those things. But making a vision board and hanging it on your wall doesn’t make it done.
To engage the Law of Attraction and allow your vision board to work, you need to regularly interact with it. Every day — morning and night — spend a few minutes engaging with your collage. Notice something new each time. See yourself in those images. Feel the words.
Then, live each day with those words and pictures imprinted on your mind. Let them be the filter through which you make decisions about your life and your career. Remain focused and committed to your intentions.
4. Act as if.
Everything is energy. To get what you want, you have to raise your vibration to the level of that thing.
Part of getting what you want using the Law of Attraction is acting like you already have it. Embody self-assurance even if you feel insecure. Dress for the job you want, as if you’re already in it. Wake up every day, engaged and ready to make a difference — as if you’re already doing the job you love.
Pretty soon, you’re going to be all of these things. For real.
5. Eliminate doubts.
I work with a lot of clients who are clear about what they want to do with their lives, but their mindset trips them up.
Be careful not to sabotage yourself. Do you believe you are worthy of having a job you love? If not, find out what’s behind that.
Then, concentrate on what you know, such as your strengths and abilities, and hold tight to your aspirations. You can earn a living doing work you love and work you’re called to do. If you focus on landing your dream job, you’ll bring financial abundance into your life. If you try to alleviate financial concerns first, you’ll never get that joy and meaningful life you’re craving.
If you need some daily reminders of your greatness and limitless future, post up affirmations on your bathroom mirror like:
- I am worthy of getting a job or career I love!
- I know what I want!
- I am going to make a fabulous (insert new job title)!
- I am confident in my abilities!
- I have many talents to bring to the world!
- I am ready for success!
- I got an offer!
- I am thrilled to start my new job!
Include all of these sayings on your vision board, too, for an added boost of confidence.
6. Feel gratitude.
Take every opportunity during the day to reflect on the goodness in your life. Even if you hate your job, find things about your work place that makes you smile. If you’re grasping at ideas, turn to other parts of your life, or something as simple as being grateful for your family, friends, the smooth taste of your morning latte or the fresh air you breathe.
As well, feel gratitude for everything on your vision board including the job you’re about to get. It is so close, you can smell the sweet scent of success. Count your blessings.
7. Let the Law of Attraction do its thing.
Once you’re clear on what job or career you want, you’ve done your vision board, interacted with it daily, put raised your vibrations to the level of that job you want, you really have to let go. Let the Law of Attraction work.
Have faith! Manifesting your perfect job won’t happen overnight. Go on with your life because conscious or not, the Law of Attraction is doing its thing.
Don’t allow your energy around your dream job to drop for long. If you slip, once again bring yourself up by visualizing yourself in your perfect work and how great it feels.
Stay positive and keep on believing in your dream job. And, when you least expect it, that job will fall into your lap.
If you’re ready to step into the job and career you’ve always wanted, take advantage of the simple yet profound power of creating of a vision board and don’t miss a step! See it. Feel it. Live it.
Life is too short for unhappy Mondays. Create the career and life you deserve.
