About Lauren Reiter
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy and practicing in Granbury, Texas where I have lived since 1982. My Alma mater is University of Texas at Arlington where I received a Master of Science in Social Work degree. I am a member in good standing of EMDRIA (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association).
My professional philosophy is each client deserves all my respect, compassion, understanding, acceptance, and professional resources. Each is an amazing testimony to the strength and resilience of the human psyche. I am honored to have my clients’ trust. There are few things more rewarding to me than to see the transformation that occurs with successful therapy, often life-changing changes. Rewarding because every person is precious beyond measure, and because I believe that helping one person helps us all. I love my work!
I use EMDR therapy with all my clients because of its proven effectiveness. Trained in 2009 and certified in 2012, EMDR is my wheelhouse, though I sometimes combine it with cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy, internal family systems, and mindfulness as needed. Whereas EMDR was originally developed and primarily used for processing trauma, specific EMDR protocols have been refined for dozens of therapeutic issues including depression, anxiety and panic attacks, pain, performance enhancement, addictions, co-dependence, phobias, phantom limb pain, low self-esteem, sleep problems, and stress to name a few.
I also blog on my website, emdrway.com, to educate the public regarding the benefits of EMDR and to provide a resource for new EMDR therapist to go to for protocols in specific areas. The blogs address other issues such as depression, Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder, grief, narcissism, anxiety and disassociation as well. Please go there to find out more about EMDR, how it works and what to expect in an EMDR session.
My personal life philosophy is that we are all in this together, this mixed bag of life. No one is more or less worthy than another, no matter what they have done or what has been done to them. It is up to each of us to make the most of our life by creating and developing our niche for the enrichment of our own lives and that of others. I try to maintain a balance in the essential areas of my life, namely, family, work, my own health (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual), friends, and hobbies. This balance helps me to be present when working with clients, and its maintenance is an ongoing work with all the ever-changing challenges that comprise the dynamics of life. Some of my hobbies are biking, swimming, kayaking, hiking, Swedish weaving, reading, and writing.
