About Joan E. Childs LCSW
Hello! I am Joan E Childs, LCSW a psychotherapist, author and inspirational speaker. I’ve been in private practice in South Florida since 1978 specializing in both individual and couple’s therapy, known as EcCT, ENCOUNTER-CENTERED COUPLES THERAPY, an innovative technology founded by Hedy Schleifer, that takes couples through a profound transformational experience. This process cleanses the relational space that too often becomes polluted over time. The relational space is where the couple lives and is the playground for the children. I am a graduate of the EcCT Master Class.
I am certified in many clinical modalities, too many to list, but to mention a few, Hypnosis, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Grief Therapy, Inner Child Work, Codependency, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming and more. I guess when in practice for more than 42 years, and having reached the honor of becoming an octogenarian, one acquires many techniques, not unlike a professional golfer that has many golf clubs in his golf bag, knowing which to choose for the best outcome. If you only have one club, you play a lousy game of golf!
I was fortunate to be the first affiliate of the John Bradshaw Center for Recovery in the United States. I have appeared on many national radio and television shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show. I had my own television series, SOLUTIONS, on a local public network, WLRN, dedicated to the memory of my daughter, Pamela Anne Glassman. The series of 24 episodes offered information and resources to the community for persons and families suffering from mental illness and mood disorders. I am the founder of the PAMELA ANNE GLASSMAN EDUCATIONAL CENTER, in cooperation with Mental Health America of Southeast Florida. My mission has been to obliterate the stigma from mental illness and morph my pain into passion and purpose. By helping others, I helped myself.
On a personal level I am divorced and had five children, one deceased and six grandchildren.
I live in Hollywood, Florida and practice in both Hallandale and Hollywood, Florida.
I provide presentations, workshops and seminars dedicated to the profession of mental health, relationships, loss and grief and women’s issues.
I am proud to share that I authored two books, THE MYTH OF THE MAIDEN: On Being A Woman (1995), WHY DID SHE JUMP? My Daughter’s Battle with Bipolar Disorder (2014), both published by Health Communications, Inc. My new book, I HATE THE MAN I LOVE: A Conscious Relationship is Your Key to Success will be released on May 11, 2020, published by Frederick Fell Publishing Co.
