About Elizabeth Perry
I am a counsellor, coach, and educator supporting clients from around the world who are recovering from psychological and spiritual abuse. My areas of specialization include ACEs, Trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, Anxiety, ACoA, Cults and Spiritual Abuse, and Human Trafficking.
I have a diverse academic, professional, and personal background which helps me offer a wealth of perspective and relatability to my clients.
I’ve worked as an Early Childhood Educator and Adult Health and Wellness Facilitator. I worked retail as a sales consultant, manager and regional supervisor. I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 13 and operate my current practice as a social enterprise. I also have a background in linguistics and have taught English to international students, immigrants and refugees. I work every day to increase my cultural humility and decolonize my mind.
My primary lens is Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). I believe the way we have historically raised our children has impaired our development as humans to the point where we are now destroying the planet and increasingly each other to avoid dealing with our own hidden shame and confusion about who we are.
I believe each human is valuable and if we’re honest with ourselves and each other we can live well together and with the other species on the planet.
Nature is my guru, and I refer to natural systems for wisdom and trustworthy guidance and I help my clients connect with this ever available source of solace and security as well.
I’ve always been passionate about making the world a better place by validating the good in others and encouraging and empowering them to be their authentic selves.
My approach in my relationships begins with listening, not just with my ears but with my whole being, connecting with what is said as well as how, and what is left out. I validate strengths and offer insights to expand self-understanding. I support and encourage as well as educate my clients to increase their capacity to live conscious, meaningful, rewarding lives.
Some of my mentors include Nelson Mandela, Maya Angelou, Iyanla Vanzant, Brene Brown, Gabor Mate, Bruce Perry, Bessel van der Kolk, Judith Herman, Peter Levine, David Suzuki and more recently Karen Treisman and Suzanne Zeedyk, to name just a few.
My all time favourite champion for psychologically healthy humans though is Alice Miller. I feel like we’re kindred spirits and I’m channeling her in my later years.
