About Douglas Kong
I am able to help with stress and stress related issues, especially if you wish to perform well under stress. I am also good at handling issues to do with grief, loss, post-traumatic stress besides depression and anxiety. Relationship issues such as conflicts, communication breakdown, interpersonal problem solving and borderline disorders are also within my competency and experience. My consultations can be online and/or face-to-face.
I am a Certified Executive/Business and Life Coach specializing in helping individuals, teams and organizations to function optimally with peak performance in the workplace. I help people by assisting them to overcome their personal performance barriers and by increasing their social and interpersonal functioning and communication skills. I am a retired psychiatrist and my past training and experience are focused on Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Developmental Psychiatry and Group Dynamics.
I had qualified in medicine from the University of Singapore (now National University of Singapore) in 1974, and obtained my psychiatry specialist training in England and qualified as a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists(1981) and later elected to the Fellow(1999) of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom. Throughout my career, my main focus had been on the psychological and social aspects of psychiatric and medical conditions especially stress, traumatic stress and psychological treatment. As a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Psychological Medicine of the National University of Singapore, my research papers were in the areas of stress, psychological treatment and behavioral problems in children.
In private practice for 24 years, I specialized in managing stress and stress related disorders. My psychiatric group practice had a corporate arm, the Centre for Effective Living Pte Ltd, which offered a variety of services including stress management workshops, anger management workshops and critical incidents management for organizations facing traumatic stress besides Organizational Development work such as Change Management.
I do consultation with organizations and corporations, using the same techniques I used for helping people improve to helping individuals exceed their performance and for organizations to be effective entities. Combining the very best insights from interpersonal psychotherapy, performance psychology, systemic intervention and group dynamics and undergirded with neuroscience, I can now offer to you the very best of the distillation of these disciplines. Whatever the challenges you and your organization or team is facing, my process oriented approach informed by psychodynamics and systemic understanding and grounded in neuroscience has something to offer you.
