Getty It's been a long time since he and Jennifer Lopez were together, but there's been some pretty sad news about one of the singer's exes.
On Saturday, David Cruz passed away at age 51, according to his rep, though it sounds like he'd been sick for awhile.
So how did David Cruz die? Here's everything we know about the tragic situation so far.
1. Cruz and Lopez were highschool sweethearts.
Cruz and Lopez's relationship goes all the way back to high school, and they dated for 10 years. Right around the time Lopez's career was exploding, they ended things. However, in the beginning of her journey to stardom, Cruz was frequently by her side on the red carpet.
2. How did David Cruz die? He sadly passed away from heart disease.
The New York City Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Cruz died on Saturday of heart disease at Mount Sinai Hospital, sharing at the same time that his death was not related to the current coronavirus outbreak. Unfortunately, there have been no other details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
3. Cruz's partner shared a few words about him.
In a statement, Cruz's partner of 18 years, Isa, opened up about what Cruz meant to her.
"He was kind and loving. He never held on to anything and was always very open," Isa said. "He was a devoted father, he helped raise his step-son who is now in the Marines. He loved the Yankees and Knicks. He loved going to the theatre with me. My favorite moment was family date night, because it wasn't just special for me but for the kids as well. He always made sure to end things with an 'I love you.'"
4. Not much else is known about Cruz and his death.
So far, there haven't been any details about Cruz's passing or what he's been up to since dating Lopez. After their relationship, it would seem that he lived a pretty private life — he and his wife don't seem to have a social media presence at all, though judging by her statement, he had children who were very important to him and was centered on his family.
5. Today, Lopez is engaged to Alex Rodriguez.
It's been more than 20 years since Lopez and Cruz went their separate ways, so understandably, she's had a few relationships since then. In the past, Lopez has most notably dated Sean Combs and was engaged to Ben Affleck, and her previous marriages include Ojani Noah, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony. Today, she's engaged to former baseball player Alex Rodriguez, and obviously, Cruz had moved on to Isa not long after his split from Lopez, too, since they were together almost 20 years until he passed away.

So far, Lopez has yet to react publicly to the news of Cruz's death — her Instagram has been mostly about hanging out at home with her kids while self-isolating. It'll definitely be interesting to see if she shares any updates in the coming days, though, given their romantic past together.
