A Brief Timeline Of Nicki Minaj And Meek Mill's Nasty Twitter Feud — All The Messy Details
And to think they were once in love!
It's difficult to believe that there was once a time when "Starships" singer Nicki Minaj and rapper Meek Mill were once madly in love — because, these days, they seem to just be mad at one another. One would think, though, that they'd have moved on from each other, especially since Minaj recently got married to her longtime love, Kenneth Petty. She even changed her Twitter name to "Mrs. Petty."
And yet, it didn't take long for the duo to fire up their old feud, and they've been snarling back and forth ever since.
So, why are Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill feuding? Here's what we know about the long, and sordid, history of the lovers-turned-mortal enemies.
1. Why are Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill feuding? They got into a Twitter war on February 5, 2020.
On February 5, 2020, Minaj and Mill fired up their respective Twitter accounts to lob horrifying accusations against one another. Now, there are times that it got more than a little bit NSFW, so what we're going to say, in a nutshell, is that Minaj accused Mill of beating up and spitting on his sister — and recording it for all posterity. Minaj was, frankly, pissed off that Mill had been "taking shots" at her now-husband for "years," and she finally got fed up with Mill being petty about her newfound happiness. Mill fired back and claimed Minaj knew that the only way she could "dead" his career was by accusing him of domestic violence — then brought up the issue of Minaj's brother, who was recently found guilty of sexual assault. Yikes!
2. Minaj and Mill split in 2016, and Minaj confirmed their split in January 2017.
In 2016, Minaj started posting subtle shade on her Instagram page, including a photo with the caption, "your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth." Fans were beginning to wonder if, indeed, she and Mill had split, and she confirmed their split with a tweet dated January 2017 that confirmedthat she was, indeed, single.
3. In July 2017, Mill released a song that addressed his relationship with Minaj.
In July 2017, Mill released a new album called Wins & Losses. On that album was a song called "1942 Flows," in which he specifically addresses his relationship with Minaj. "Bloggers in the frenzy, truck to the Bentley/ Ain’t doing no interviews/I’m busy, n---a, we litty/ So when you see me out don’t ask me about no Nicki/ F** I look like telling my business on Wendy?/N-words taking shots, can’t stop me they ain’t real enough/ Cut her off, act like she’s dead and it’s killing her," he rapped.
4. Minaj fired back on August 2018's "Barbie Dreams."
Not one to take shade lying down, Minaj fired back at Mill in her August 2018 hit song, "Barbie Dreams." "Meek still be in my DMs, I be having to duck em/ I used to pray for times like this..face a** when I f**k em," she spit.
5. Mill wished Minaj and Petty "all the best" in their new marriage in December 2018.
As soon as word got out that Minaj and Petty were a thing, fans clamored to know what Minaj's old flame Mill thought about the pairing. He responded in a very classy tweet (for him, anyway), which you can check out below.
6. But the good times came to an end in January 2020.
Just one month before the latest Twitter war, Mill and Minaj proved that they were far from friendly when they ran into one another at a retail store — and a shouting match began. Needless to say, there were threats and hatred thrown all around, and the feud between Mill and Minaj reached an all-new low.
That is, of course, until now.
7. Minaj says she regrets the Twitter war with Mill.
"Listen, it never fails. Every time I do it, five minutes later, I’m like, why the f**k did I…? Every single time. But it’s a good lesson in knowing how to master your anger and emotions. So every time I do that, I like give myself a talking to in my head, like, okay, you played yourself, you shouldn’t have did [sic] that. You learned your lesson again. How many times did I learn that lesson? So I gave myself that talk today, sir,” she said in an exclusive interview today.
Hopefully, then, this is the last time they feud with one another.
