Cee Lo Green Is Engaged! Meet Shani James, His Longtime Girlfriend Appearing On 'Marriage Boot Camp' This Season
Congratulations to the happy couple!
Who is Cee Lo Green's fiancé? It's rare that a celebrity is able to keep his private life as private as it should be, or as he wants it to be — but Green, best known for his work in Gnarls Barkley, has been able to do just that.
Shani James was Green's longtime girlfriend before he popped the question, and they were, in fact, engaged for more than a year before they publicly made that announcement! That's a pretty impossible feat to accomplish, and one that's to be commended in a time when overexposure is the key to success.
So let's look at what we know about James, and what television show they'll be appearing on soon!
1. Who is Cee Lo Green's fiancé? Her name is Shani James.
James and Green had been dating for quite some time before he surprised her with an engagement back in 2015. He popped the question while the duo was in the studio together.
"It was just a typical night at the studio, but then again, not so typical cause I did something extra special, out of the ordinary. I went and purchased a ring that we had seen together, maybe four or five months or so prior. I went back and purchased the ring and I just kind of had it stashed away in some old equipment. And I said, ‘Will you reach in there and grab something for me?" he said about their engagement.
2. Green has faced a firestorm of controversy recently.
In November 2019, Green was announced as part of the FloydFest lineup. However, shortly after the announcement, the promoters announced that they'd taken him off of the lineup. The reason being: fans of the festival had taken to social media to protest his inclusion over a series of now-deleted tweets from the former The Voice judge, in which he debated the issue of consent with an unconscious woman.
While he was initially charged with sexual assault, he ultimately pleaded no contest to a drug charge and was given probation.
3. After the charges, he tried to get back on The Voice.
Once he realized his career was in freefall thanks to the drug charges, Green tried to apologize and get back on The Voice.
"I've talked very possibly about doing 'The Voice' again. So I just kind of put that out there, wishful thinking, kind of willing it. Because I would love to do it again. It was a very redefining moment in my personal and professional life," Green said. "I get in front of my creator, humbled, and I ask, 'What does this mean? What is this supposed to mean for me? What am I supposed to learn from it?' And (to) have that revealed and have it bestowed upon me is a blessing, of sorts," he said.
Ultimately, however, he wasn't successful in doing so.
4. Little is known about James.
Outside of her "standing by" Green as he faced, and ultimately pled guilty to, his charges, little is known about James, save to say that she worked in the studio with him during the production of his album, Heart Blanche. However, she's succeeded in remaining out of the limelight as Green tried to stage his comeback.
5. This will be Green's second marriage.
Even though he hasn't walked down the aisle with her quite yet, James will be Green's second marriage. His first marriage to Christina Johnson only lasted a few years, from 2001 to 2005. However, he shares an 18-year-old son, Kingston, with his former wife.
6. Green and James will be appearing on Marriage Boot Camp together.
Recently, it was announced that Green and James will be appearing on the newest edition of Marriage Boot Camp, the hit WeTV series which will soon be getting a subtitle, called Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition.
Green and James will be joining Michel’le Toussaint and her boyfriend Stew, Joseline Hernandez and boyfriend Balistic Beats, Styles P and Adjua Styles, and Bianca Bonnie and Chozus.
We'll definitely be tuning in to see all the drama and mess!
