Having a steel backbone means staying strong under pressure. In astrology, especially, the assertive zodiac signs are not pushovers, doormats, or victims. They stand up for what they believe in, even when they’re surrounded by people who don’t agree with them.

People like this usually have character and don’t care if their opinions aren’t popular. And if we consider astrology, the assertive zodiac signs never cave, even if it’s the easier thing to do.

While it can be hard to stand up for yourself, sometimes, people decide to develop a backbone. It can be a long process involving pep talks, only saying yes to things you want to do, and developing a sense of when to engage.

Remember that you are first and foremost loyal to your own self and beliefs. You can compromise only when you’re okay with it, not out of a sense of obligation.

1. TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)

Taurus has a surplus of backbone. No one no matter how persuasive they are, others can't make Taurus do anything they don't want to do. These individuals are very good at saying no, even if it means hurting someone's feelings or making a situation more difficult.

Taurus don't need to make excuses for saying no, nor do they need to explain their reasons. Just plain no is good enough.

2. CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)

Capricorns can be extremely tough if they need to. They're practical, disciplined, and cautious, so they're not going to take too many risks. Capricorns need to decide things for themselves and won't change their mind or do something because they feel pressure from other people.

They are self-reliant and won't blindly follow anyone. Capricorns know they're worthy and deserve respect. They're their own advocates.

3. LEO (July 23 - August 22)

No one has ever called a Leo a pushover or a sucker — it's nearly impossible to con them. Rejection doesn't terrify Leo, and if someone tries to shut them down, they'll just come back harder and with even more focus.

Leos have no problem standing up for themselves, speaking their truth, or getting other people to listen to them. They are helpful and kind, but that doesn't mean they're going to let anyone take advantage of them.

If they get into an argument and the other person refuses to see the truth  in what Virgo is talking about, rather than keeping the disagreement going and possibly escalating the tension, Virgo will walk away because they know to pick their battles.

5. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)

Scorpios know that not everybody is going to agree with them or like them, so they're not going to change their behavior to suit other people. They are focused and don't often stray from the path they're on.

Scorpios don't back down, even in situations where other people would give up. They will dig their heels in deeper and continue to stand tall, proud, and strong. A Scorpio tends to finish what they start, even when faced with obstacles.
