23 Unique And Memorable Taylor Swift Song Lyrics You May Not Have Heard Before
Taylor has a TON of music under her belt.
You might know Taylor Swift as that one celebrity that had her award moment ruined by Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. People also label her as a drama queen who enjoys feuding with other celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj. Many also label her as the country-turned-pop singer who likes to sing about all the guys she dated.
However, most don’t realize that Taylor Swift is more than that and not the villain people paint her out to be.
Taylor Swift is an incredible singer and songwriter. Contrary to popular belief, she is actually one of the few top artists to actually write all of her own lyrics. She has been honing her craft since a young age, as she signed her first music publishing deal at age 14 with Sony/ATV. That deal actually made her the youngest signing in the history of the company.
However, she left two years later and went on to sign with Big Machine Records. She then went on to release her very first single, “Tim McGraw.” It was such a hit that it stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 20 weeks. Also that year, she released her first self-titled country album, Taylor Swift. This album led to her getting the American Music Awards’ Favorite Country Female Artist honor.
In 2008, Taylor Swift came out with her second album, Fearless, which went on to win Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. She was also the youngest person, at 20 years old, to receive the award for Album of the Year.
Taylor Swift then went on to release Speak Now, in 2010, and Red, in 2012. For both albums collectively, she received 5 Grammy Award nominations. Swift’s most recent albums are Lover (2019), Reputation (2017), and 1989 (2014). Just like her past albums, these also topped the charts, obviously.
Most notably, for Reputation, she won four awards at the American Music Awards, including Tour of the Year and Artist of the Year. Those wins resulted in her becoming the most awarded female winner in the history of the AMA’s, with 23 awards total.
Reputation was also her last album under her deal with Big Machine Records. However, her parting with them did not go smoothly. Big Machine was acquired by music manager Scooter Braun and he has worked closely with Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Kanye West. Throughout her career, Swift claims she was bullied by Braun, saying that he encourage his clients to post rude comments about her on social media.
The music industry doesn't always seem fair to its performers, though — when Taylor Swift signed her initial record deal at 15, she gave the company ownership of her work. She soon realized that she wanted to own her work and spent years trying to buy back her old master recordings from Big Machine founder Scott Borchetta, but he wouldn’t allow it.
Now Scooter Braun owns all of Taylor Swift's masters, so he is the sole person who gets to decide how her music is distributed. For example, if a television show wants to use one of Taylor Swift’s old songs, they have to first get permission from Braun — and pay him a fee to use it. This means that Taylor has no control over any of her past music and will not get paid for it when it is used.
Since discovering this, Taylor Swift has spoken out about how musicians should fight for their right to own their work.
Taylor Swift has had an amazing career and is incredibly talented. Her songs are so catchy and I can’t help but sing along to Taylor Swift lyrics at the top of my lungs.
It's easy to get dangerously lost in Taylor Swift's music. I mean that literally — the day I got my license, I blasted Taylor Swift’s new album, Red, so loudly in my car that I famously rear-ended a Bentley.
Taylor Swift has always been my guilty pleasure but I didn’t start to appreciate her until I became best friends with someone who has a deep love for Taylor. He has introduced me to all the bonus and unreleased songs that are truly hidden gems. These lesser-known songs have now become some of my favorites because the lyrics feel so honest and fresh.
Here are 23 of Taylor Swift’s best song lyrics and quotes from Taylor Swift's lesser known songs that will make you appreciate her music even more:
