Country Singer Chely Wright Thought She Had A Migraine But It Turned Out To Be Way More Serious
She had been suffering from migraines for over a year.
Country artist Chely Wright shared some shocking news regarding her health recently, revealing that she suffered from a stroke a year ago in a Facebook post. In the post, she informed her fans to be more aware when it comes to health and even encouraged others to learn from her own experience by becoming more aware of any symptoms that might suggest a problem. Wright shared that she suffered from migraines for over a year until it worsened. “It’s been a long year, but I am ok,” she shared in the post, admitting that she was grateful for her access to high-quality medical care. Because she had shows booked that weekend, she immediately went to the emergency room with wife Lauren Blitzer to see if doctors could help manage the issue.
Wright noted that when her migraines worsened, she recalled looking in the mirror and knowing something was wrong. She shared her gratitude in having access to healthcare which is not as easily accessible to Americans and expressed her desire to change this issue. Who Is Chely Wright?
1. She’s expected to go on tour next year
Wright's health scare hasn't gotten in the way of her pursuits, because she's got a busy new year coming up ahead with a tour planned. Wright has been in the music biz for quite some time, but she hasn't stopped yet. In 1994, she released her debut album Woman in the Moon and made her very first Top 40 country hit in 1997 with "Shut Up and Drive," according to Taste of Country. Her most recent album was released in 2016 and is titled "I Am The Rain" which features 13 tracks. Her 2020 tour kicks off January 22 in Florida and ends September 12 in Kansas.
2. She came out as a lesbian in 2010
In May 2010, Wright became one of the first major country artists to publicly come out as gay. According to The Huffington Post, she shared that her transparency with her homosexuality was a measure taken to allow others to feel accepted. She wanted to address "concerns with bullying and hate crimes toward gays, particularly gay teenagers, and the damage to her life caused by 'lying and hiding.'"
3. She released a memoir in 2010 too
Chely Wright's memoir Like Me: Confessions of a Heartland Country Singer shares a glimpse into her life, career; family, and even her sexuality. The description of the book reads, "She writes of making up her mind at a young age to become a country music star, knowing then that her feelings and crushes on girls were “sinful” and hoping and praying that she would somehow be "fixed." ('Dear God, please don’t let me be gay. I promise not to lie. I promise not to steal. I promise to always believe in you . . . Please take it away.')"
4. She is not in favor of Trump and doesn't shy away from it on her social media
If you take a glance at Wright’s Instagram, her stance on Trump is pretty clear. Back in 2016, when Trump was in the running for President, Wright told Rolling Stone, “I cannot for the life of me see a merit in supporting Donald Trump. Not just as a politician. He has no redeeming qualities as a human being. The salient point I want to make about Donald Trump is he is not a good person. Should he get into office, I’ve got to assume that Congress will keep him in check.”
One of her latest Instagram posts on Trump reads, “Donald Trump and I did a lot of business together in the '90s and the 2000s. We created good-paying jobs, took care of our employees & made a ton of money doing it. What we built together is still thriving today, but most importantly, we remain dear friends. — No one *Ever.”
5. She's been married to her wife for six years
Almost a year after coming out publicly, Wright married her wife, Lauren Blitzer Wright, at a private home in Connecticut, according to People.
According to Taste of Country, the couple announced the exciting news in 2013 that they were expecting and shared that “We’re excited to be parents and we hope we don’t mess it up too badly!”
6. Chely and Lauren have twin sons
Chely and Lauren's sons George and Everett, 6, are the cutest boys and are frequently featured on Wright’s Instagram. On Halloween, Wright shared a video on of the boys dressed as Power Rangers, sword fighting. She captioned the video, “I really can’t imagine not having two of them. See the pumpkins in the hallway? The boys have determined a Power Rangers battle strategy and insisted ‘no one can touch the pumpkins until Halloween!’”
