Meet Romy Lauer, Matt Lauer's Daughter — Plus Her Viral TikTok Video Featuring Dad Singing And Dancing
She deleted it after Brooke Nevils' allegations surfaced.
A few days ago disgraced former Today Show host Matt Lauer resurfaced in a surprising way — as the star of his 16-year-old daughter Romy's TikTok videos. Romy Lauer posted a few lighthearted videos of her dad lip-syncing and dancing to "Hot Shower" by Chance the Rapper and to "Big Fun" from Heathers: The Musical. However, now that Brooke Nevils's allegations that Lauer raped her at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, the teen has removed the videos featuring her dad. Who is Matt Lauer's daughter?
1. Matt's kids
Matt Lauer and his ex-wife Annette Roque have three children together. Jack, the oldest, was born June 26, 2001. Romy, the middle child and only girl, was born October 2, 2003. Thijs, the youngest son, was born November 28, 2006.
2. The TikTok videos
Romy Lauer is just your typical teenage with famous parents. She's on TikTok and several days ago to post a series of videos of her dad being goofy. This was the first time that Matt Lauer was seen in the "public eye" since he was fired from NBC two years ago after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. One of the videos is below.
3. He's an Infinity Wars fan
In another video, Lauer can be seen mimicking Thanos and his finger snap from the popular movie Avengers: Infinity War. Was Romy having fun at her dad's expense? Did Lauer ask her to post some goofy, lighthearted videos to counter the bad press that was about to hit? These are the things we want to know.
4. She has since deleted the videos
Just days ago, the internet was reacting to Romy Lauer's TikTok videos of her dad lip-syncing and dancing. I mean, it IS an interesting way for him to resurface after two years. Now that the allegations contained in Ronan Farrow's new book Catch and Kill have come out, however, Romy has deleted the videos.
5. Matt's statement talked about his kids
Lauer has been widely criticized for the tone and content of the statement he released after the Brooke Nevils' allegations surfaced. He denied the rape allegations, calling them "categorically untrue." He opens the statement with talking about the fact that he stayed silent for his family. "Over the past two years people have asked why I have not spoken out to defend myself more vigorously against some of the false and salacious allegations leveled at me. It is a fair question and the answer is deeply personal. Despite my desire to set the record straight and confront the individuals making false allegations, I wanted nothing less than to create more headlines my kids would read and a new gathering of photographers at the end of our driveway. So I decided to just stay quiet and work on repairing my relationship with the people I love. It has been the most important full-time job I have ever had."
6. There's a show about Lauer's downfall coming out next month
The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell debuts on November 1 on Apple TV+. The drama will follow the fall of Lauer's career as well of that of Charlie Rose. Carrell's character is a mixture of both men.
