Meet Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Beatrice's Fiancé
Congratulations are in order for the happy couple!
As Americans, we're nothing if not fascinated by the British Royal Family. The world seemed to stop, recently, when Prince Harry of Windsor married the American actress Meghan Markle, and she subsequently became Duchess Meghan of Sussex.
Now, it looks like we may have another Royal Wedding coming up, as Princess Beatrice — daughter of the embattled Prince Andrew of York and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson (better known as Fergie, the Duchess of York) — has just announced that she, too, has just gotten engaged.
So who is Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, the new fiancé of Princess Beatrice of York?
Let's look at what we know about him.
1. He's Italian royalty.
According to the BBC, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, as his name indicates, is a native of Italy. Even more to the point, he descends from Italian aristocracy, with his father being a Count and a champion Olympic skiier.
2. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Beatrice have known each other nearly all their lives.
"Beatrice's father, the Duke of York, included two photographs taken by Princess Eugenie on his official Instagram page, along with a message from him and Fergie. 'We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride. 'We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man," reported The Daily Mail, who added that Beatrice's sister Eugenie commented that the couple had known each other "a long time" and that they were "meant to be."
3. He has a child from a previous relationship.
According to The Mirror, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has a child with Chinese-American Dara Huang, to whom he was engaged. In fact, there was some controversy at the beginning of his relationship with Princess Beatrice because his relationship with the princess overlapped with his relationship with Dara Huang! However, a source close to Princess Beatrice made clear that Edoardo and Dara were split for at least six months before Beatrice took up with him, and she would "never break up a family," especially when there's a small child involved.
4. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is a property developer.
According to Express, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is known for his work as a property developer. He has his own firm, Banda Property, which specializes in "fix-and-flips" for rich clients.
5. He will be ninth in line to the throne.
"Beatrice follows her father, Prince Andrew, in the line of succession for the British crown. She used to be in the eighth spot, but the arrival of Prince Harry's son, Archie, bumped her down in the list. At the time of writing, the order of succession stands as: Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and so on," reports Harper's Bazaar.
6. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Beatrice will get married in 2020.
According to CNN, the couple plan to marry sometime in the summer of 2020.
Congratulations are in order for the happy couple!
