She just graduated from med school.
A 24-year-old Instagram influencer and recent medical school graduate was found dead inside a suitcase in her apartment in Moscow last week. Ekaterina Karaglanova was a fashion and travel blogger with over 100,000 followers. She was found on Friday, July 26th with stab wounds to her neck and chest, according to the Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets. Ekaterina's parents called her landlord to get access to her apartment after they hadn't heard from her for several days. They discovered their daughter's body stuffed into a suitcase. Reportedly, Karaglanova had just started a new relationship and was heading to the Netherlands with her boyfriend to celebrate her 25th birthday. The Mirror reported CCTV footage of a man entering her apartment and leaving hours later carrying a suitcase was recovered from the scene. How did Ekaterina Karaglanova die?
1. Her murderer confessed
Russian authorities posted a video to YouTube in which Ekaterina's ex-boyfriend Maxim Gareyev confessed to murdering Karaglanova by stabbing her "at least five times" in the neck and chest. The 33-year-old claimed he snapped after she made unflattering comments about his sexuality. He said: "She constantly put me down and said that I am sexually unworthy and ugly. She lowered my financial opportunities and I couldn't stand it. I stabbed her at least five time with a knife in her neck and chest. I regret it."
2. They recently broke up
Maxim Gareyev also told Russian police that he and Karaglonova started dating several weeks before he murdered her. They broke up because she met someone else and started dating him. Gareyev appeared in court on Thursday and reportedly said: "I am ashamed of myself."
3. He is in serious debt
Gareyev addmited that he was millions of rubles in debt, but he told authorities Ekaterina's murder was not financially motivated or planned, but rather it was "spontaneous." Reportedly, Gareyev's attorney indicated his client will undergo a mental health evaluation.
4. Was he her Sugar Daddy?
During his confession, Gareyev reportedly said that he gave Karaglonova money on their dates, sugar daddy style. It's not known if this is true or not. He also said: "She told me I was ugly and that even plastic surgery would not help me."
5. She loved to travel
Ekatertina shared her love of food, fashion and travel on her popular Instagram account @katti_loves_life. In her last IG post on July 22nd, the former Miss Moscow runner-up wrote about how much she loved to travel, saying: "Our short but very cheerful trip to Corfu has come to an end. It was very opportune for a few days to escape from the torrential rains and cold to the Ionian Sea. Generally, to be honest, I do not like a long rest. I travel often, but in each country I spend no more than 3-5 days. The impressions of such short trips remain the brightest. I remember in detail every trip, all beautiful places, funny stories."
6. She was going to be a dermatolgogist
Karaglonova had just graduated from medical school recently, an accomplisment she shared with her Instagram followers. Reportedly she planned on entering the field of dermatology. Karaglonova was clearly more than just a pretty face. It's a shame toxic masculinity stole her life and the potential good she could have done as a doctor. Instead, she's dead because she told a man she wasn't attracted to him anymore.
