YouTube Influencer Amanda Ensing Beefing With Kylie Jenner Over Beachy Nude Instagram Photo — But Why?
Another day, another Kardashian/Jenner family feud!
The YouTube community — and, specifically the beauty division of the YouTube community — seems to always be at war with one another. This, however, is a YouTube feud on another level, because this particular vlogger has ignited a feud with Kylie Jenner, who happens to be one of the most popular people in the world. Who is Amanda Ensing?
1. The feud started because Amanda Ensing thought Kylie was copying her.
According to Us Weekly, as with most petty fights, this beef started on the social media ground zero of all pettiness: Instagram. The outlet reports that the beef started when Amanda Ensing posted a picture of herself in a floppy hat, sunning herself on the beach. A month later, Kylie Jenner posted a similar photo in a similar floppy hat. While the "floppy hat and swimsuit on the beach" get-up is something every South Florida retiree over the age of 65 wears at least once in their lives, Amanda took Kylie's post as a sign that she was "copying" her, and made a comment as such. That's when the youngest member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan called in for reinforcements with the help of her big sister, Kim Kardashian-West, and the battle royale was "on and poppin'," as the youth today say.
2. While Amanda Ensing hasn't responded to the pettiness, Kylie's captions are earning her the Petty Crocker nickname.
According to People Magazine, Amanda Ensing is either taking the high road or avoiding being petty (depending, of course, on which faction of the drama you ask). However, Kylie Jenner is continuing on with the one-woman mission of being Miss Petty Boots, because in subsequent photos, she included the butterfly emoji in her captions — a reference, some say, to Ensing's caption on the now-infamous photo, wherein she writes, "she is a butterfly with bullet holes in her wings that never regretted learning to fly." We liked it better when it was in a Smashing Pumpkins song, because the 1990s were awesome.
3. On the other hand, Amanda Ensing has no room to talk about anyone copying her.
According to Revelist, back in 2017, Amanda Ensing had tried to sell some merch on Black Friday, and some people accused her of being ... well ... a little too inspired by the work of another.
"On the inside sleeve of this hoodie are nude lipstick swatches, which Amanda says are "SO CUTE." Kelsey Kinsman, CEO and designer of indie fashion line Skull House Designs, is wearing an original "Swatch Queen" shirt, complete with the inner-arm swatches that she claims Amanda copied. Kelsey posted a still from Amanda's merch reveal video to her Snapchat, with the caption "Amanda Ensing's new merch. BLATANT copy of my swatch queen tee I did a few months back. idk what to say honestly...," reported the outlet, who added that while Amanda initially took the "strong and wrong" approach (she even threatened Kelsey with lawyers! Geez!), she ultimately backed down and issued a public apology to the indie designer, claiming she'd never intended to hurt anyone, least of all her.
In the words of Nene Leakes: okay girl, bye!
4. She was briefly a spokesmodel for Morphe brand cosmetics.
According to WWD, Amanda Ensing was briefly a spokesmodel for Morphe brand cosmetics, which hoped to engage younger consumers with their "influencer" marketing campaign.
"It’s a big launch for Morphe, which is known primarily for its makeup brushes and eye shadow palettes. Morphe executives declined to comment on how quickly the company is growing, but industry sources estimated the business has about $200 million in sales and $80 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization," reported the outlet.
5. She's actually pretty intelligent.
There's perhaps nothing worse than wasted talent, which is why it's so jarring to read the LinkedIn profiles of some of these "influencers." According to Amanda Ensing's LinkedIn profile, she's a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she majored in Political Science and minored in Business Administration. Her deep love of beauty inspired her to become a YouTube vlogger, but she's actually "seeking a position in Marketing or Public Relations, specifically in the Beauty Industry. My goal is to help grow the business through social media presence and branding." She also has experience working for some of the biggest brands in the world, including Coach, Nike, and Sephora. (Why, then, are you doing all this petty nonsense, girl? Why?!)
6. Amanda Ensing and the Kardashian/Jenner clan have a bit of history.
According to Amanda Ensing's YouTube channel, in the past, she's used Kylie Jenner and the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan as "inspiration" for some of her makeup tutorials. Up until today, however, the Kardashian/Jenner clan hadn't acknowledged her.
So ... bad attention is better than no attention at all, we guess.
