She's Pregnant! Alex Morgan And Husband Servando Carrasco Expecting Baby Girl
Love and marriage and then a baby carriage.
When you're a professional athlete it probably feels like you're the only one who understands that, for all the rewards, life can be pretty tough, too. That's probably one of the reasons we very often see professional athletes date other athletes. When you both understand something so essential about each other it can make life a lot easier.
Of course, that isn't the only thing that keeps couples together. Soccer star Alex Morgan is married to another veteran of the sport, Servando Carrasco. Now, with Alex's name in the news thanks to the World Cup, let's talk about their bond, how they support each other, and how they first met. Who is Alex Morgan's husband?
1. Soccer Power Couple
Alex Morgan isn't the only stellar soccer star in her family. Her husband is Servando Carrasco, who plays for the L.A. Galaxy in the MLS. While his wife is representing USWNT during this epic World Cup, her hubby has been far away, playing soccer himself. Servando's got an extra special reason for hoping that Alex makes it to the final with team USA this year...
He's hoping that if she and the team make it to the final, he'll have an excuse for flying out to cheer her on. His own team is off that weekend, so about flying in to watch her, Servando says: “Potentially, maybe for the World Cup final. It’s not a short flight, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed, and hopefully, it works out. But I’ll be supporting from here, for sure.”
2. Long Distance
One of the main hurdles the couple has faced in the time that they've been married is dealing with a long-distance relationship as well as seldom being in the same place at the same time. Right now, Alex lives in a home the couple owns in Florida, while Servando lives in California. It's not a choice, it's just the reality of life for a soccer pro and the couple has ways of staying close.
“My husband has kind of gotten me hooked on USA Today crosswords,” Alex told the Orlando Sentinel. “I just kind of pick that up along the way here and there, but I’m in for any crossword, really. We have not made that a competition. A lot of things are competition in our daily lives, so I think we’ll leave that to more of a collaborative thing instead of a competitive one.”
3. Servando's Galaxy
While Alex is absolutely a soccer star, Servando ain't exactly a slouch either. After playing for the University of California, Berkeley's Golden Bears, he was picked in the second round of the 2011 MLS draft by the Seattle Sounders. In fact, The Galaxy is the 5th team Servando has played for since his tenure with the MLS started in 2011. Suffice to say, the guy knows his way around a soccer ball.
Described as a “technically gifted defensive midfielder with expansive passing range,” per MLS Soccer, it makes sense that Servando makes a salary of $70,250. That said, that number while just fine doesn't hold a candle to what he made with Orland City: a walloping $114,996 annually! It seems like Servando is due for a comeback, either that or he's winding down professionally.
4. How They Met
Nobody speaks more highly of Alex than Servando does. Speaking about her skills as a player when they first met versus now, he's enrapt. “She was very raw. Clearly, she had the athletic ability. She was the fastest player on the team. She had an amazing left foot. She could strike a ball on a rope. And then she started to add things to her game, brick by brick."
The couple met in 2007 during their freshman year at Cal, where they both attended college. He still remembers her journey. "She got better tactically, she started watching more soccer, her first touch got better. … She’s not just a finisher now. She’s not just a person that builds her game off of her speed or off of her athleticism. She’s always looking for a challenge.”
5. Supporting Each Other
When it comes to the sport that they both play, the duo don't let competition divide them. They always support each other. But Alex admits that she can approach her hubs with a more critical position: “My husband plays more of the supporting role, and I’m more of the critiquing role. [He can offer insight from] just understanding the game. He sees it in a different way than I do as a forward, so it’s always good to hear from him. And playing with Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], he sees [what the Swedish star does] from behind Zlatan, so I can always learn from him.”
Servando has his own thoughts when asked about how they support each other when it comes to the beautiful game. “Oh, man, that’s been quite a journey. At first, we were talking about games and stuff. You know, like, ‘Oh, you should probably do this, probably do that.’ And now I think the marriage is more important. We kind of keep soccer separate," he said.
6. And baby makes three!
Alex Morgan and her husband Servando Carrasco took to Instagram this week to announce that they are expecting their first child together. The adorable photo below reveals that a baby girl is on the way and due in April 2020. She's sure to be an amazing soccer player. After all, her mom won the World Cup. And her dad is heading to the MLS playoffs with the L.A. Galaxy.
