1. She’s an acclaimed writer.
Rachel Eliza Griffiths isn’t someone who’s just “trying to make it” as a writer. According to her own website, she’s a well-published writer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Progressive, The Georgia Review, Gulf Coast, Callaloo, Poets & Writers, The New York Times, American Poetry Review, Los Angeles Review of Books, Guernica, The Writer’s Chronicle, Transition, American Poet, Mosaic, Indiana Review, Ecotone, Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry, and many others.
Not long ago, she sat down with The New Yorker to talk about her love of poetry, and what inspired her work.
“I mean every time I saw a Merwin poem in The New Yorker it was an event and I found myself again kind of ripping the poem out to carry it around with me. And really appreciated. Whenever those events would happen are so many it's so rich it's wonderful,” she said.
2. Rachel Eliza Griffiths was spotted out with Salman Rushdie in New York City.
Page Six, as usual, was the first to report on Salman Rushdie’s interesting dating life, where they claimed that Rushdie’s been dating the 40-year-old poet for quite some time, albeit doing so “quietly.”
“The pair is believed to have celebrated the scribe’s birthday in London. The couple have been photographed together at a variety of New York events, including the House of SpeakEasy Gala in February. They were also seen at a National Arts Club film event in April. Griffiths even took Rushdie’s official photo for Penguin Books,” they said.
3. But she may be getting more than she bargained for.
Salman Rushdie has been married four times, including to Padma Lakshmi, to whom he was married from 2004 until 2007.
And, according to The New York Daily News, he wasn’t exactly the best husband to Lakshmi in the time they were together.
“The ever-demanding Rushdie needed constant care and feeding — not to mention frequent sex, according to the book. And Lakshmi wrote that Rushdie was callously insensitive to a medical condition that made intercourse painful for her. Rushdie once became so enraged by her rejection of his overtures that he denounced Lakshmi as a "bad investment," wrote the outlet.
Yikes!
4. Rachel Eliza Griffiths is not the only famous person Salman Rushdie has dated.
Obviously, with such a high-profile marriage, it makes sense that Salman Rushdie — who infamously had a fatwa issued against him by the Ayatollah of Iran thanks to his book, The Satanic Verses — also dated Clint Eastwood’s son’s ex-wife, Laura Gomez Eastwood, according to The Daily Mail.
“Sir Salman Rushdie had added another girlfriend to his long list of lovers after starting a relationship with a former model. The 68-year-old Satanic Verses author is said to be seeing Laura Gomez Eastwood, who was married to Clint Eastwood’s son Kyle for 11 years. The couple have been ‘quietly’ seeing each other for about a month,” reports the outlet.
Seems like Salman Rushdie has a pattern he follows — and a type he likes!
