Are you more likely to keep promises to people you're close with – like friends and family – over people you don’t know as well? Keeping promises isn’t always easy; let’s start there.
As someone who is consistently forgetting her keys in the morning and forgetting her vitamins at night, remembering to keep a promise can be hard.
If that sounds shallow, I apologize, but I need reminders and notes for everything, otherwise, I forget to do it all. Of course, I don’t purposefully “forget” to keep my promises.
No matter what your zodiac sign is, we all genuinely want to help the people in our lives, in any way we can.
That doesn’t change the fact that there are times when we can’t keep our promises, and times when we don’t want to keep our promises to someone, but that doesn’t change the fact that, overall, we all want to be helpful in some way.
Well… for the most part, we all want to be helpful and loyal.
Some zodiac signs have a hard time keeping their promises to others because they have other things on their minds… like themselves and their own problems.
Does this make them bad people? No, but they’re definitely some of the flakier zodiac signs of the bunch and probably shouldn’t be your first call if you want someone trustworthy to lean on (sorry not sorry).
Sometimes, promises are related to commitments. And for certain zodiac signs, committing to someone or something is a big step for them – one they’re not comfortable making.
This isn’t always true for smaller promises, but for deeper promises that are more important to someone, it’s touching to them to at least make an effort to keep your promises.
Not only is the act of keeping your promises a good way to show someone else that you value them and are willing to put them first, but it’s also good for you.
Not all promises are realistic to keep, but knowing that someone sees you as a person to be counted on and trusted can boost your own self-image and confidence.
We start to see ourselves as valuable individuals, just like our friends and family do.
And while you might not always be there for them, learning how to set boundaries, be honest, and own up to mistakes proves that we’re still who we say we are – rather than making a promise to someone and flaking on them just because we don’t really care.
I think these zodiac signs could probably brush up on their promise-making skills.

GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Gemini will make promises because it makes her look like a good friend, but she has no intention of actually following through with her promises. Gemini’s mind is also very restless, so even if she does intend to follow through with her promises, there’s also a good chance that she simply forgot what she promised you with everything else going on in her head.
Either way, Gemini is not great at keeping her word.
Gemini is also known for being two-faced, and she will do anything to get people to like her. If that means making promises to let you know that she’s reliable, so be it. Just don’t wait around for her to follow through with every single one of her promises. Deep down, all she really cares about is herself – hence, the two-faced personality.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
Libra doesn’t follow through with her promises because she doesn’t like being pressured into something or backed into a corner. She needs to look at something from all angles before she can agree to promise you something. If you’re one of her best friends, she might make an exception, but don’t hold your breath.
If you ask Libra to be honest about why she can’t (or won’t) keep promises, she’ll put up her defenses. She might even go so far as to blame it on being overwhelmed with it all when she really just doesn’t like owing people favors or loyalty. If we’re being honest here, Libra has too many of her own promises to keep to worry about keeping your promises, too.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
By nature, Sagittarius is flaky and tactless… sorry, not sorry, Sagittarius. She only cares about three things: Herself, being liked by people, and herself. There’s no question that she can be a great friend, but following through on her promises? Think again. Sagittarius does care about being liked by people, just not enough for her to win your affection by keeping her promises.
In the simplest terms, Sagittarius doesn’t follow through with her promises, and she doesn’t care. She’s too focused on her own life to pretend like she’s going to owe you anything. The one thing she does have going for her is her honesty. No, she won’t keep her promises nine times out of 10, but she’ll at least be honest about her flakiness.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces doesn’t keep her promises because she always seems to be a little bit out of touch with reality and with what’s going on in the present. She’s always thinking about what’s going on next week, replaying a conversation in her head from the other day, and generally living her best life with her head in the clouds.
While she may want to let you know she’s trustworthy, it can all still be very overwhelming for her. Keeping a promise is just one more thing on her plate! Pisces is just too in her own head to follow through with promises. While it may suck to know that she didn’t do what she said she was going to do, it’s not always on purpose, so cut her some slack every once in a while.
