Who Is Paul Greene? New Details About The Hallmark Channel Actor Who's Defending Lori Loughlin
Hallmark Channel star Paul Greene says he won't abandon Lori Laughlin.
Actress Lori Loughin faces serious criminal charges after she was caught in a bribery scandal involving college admissions. According to prosecutors Loughlin and her husband paid $500,000 to so-called admissions consultant William “Rick” Singer and his nonprofit organization, Key Worldwide Foundation (“KWF”), which prosecutors said was actually a front for accepting bribes. Singer arranged for Loughlin’s daughters to be designated as recruits to the USC crew team, paving the way for them to be accepted to the prestigious university.
Neither girl was a member of a crew team in the past, however and they didn’t row at USC either. Loughlin and her husband have pleaded not guilty on multiple charges and face long prison sentences if they are convicted. The scandal has also resulted in Loughlin losing her role on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart and other deals she had with the network. But fans and cast mates aren’t ready to abandon the star. Castmate Paul Green, who plays Dr. Carson Shepherd on the show says he’s still Loughlin’s friend.
The Canadian actor, who was previously best known for roles on The Newsroom and A Girlfriend’s Guide To Divorce before being cast on When Calls The Heart, spoke to Popcorn Talk Network’s I Could Never Be and talked about how the scandal has affected the cast and crew. Who Is Paul Greene? Read on for new details.
1. Paul Greene's background
Greene is from Alberta, Canada and started acting professionally in 2006 with a role on the show Freddie. Since then he has appeared on multiple TV shows including NCIS and The Client List. Since 2015, he’s made regular appearances in Hallmark films and started on When Calls The Heart in 2017. He has been in over 100 commercials as well.
Greene lives in LA with his son.
2. Lori Loughlin Dropped
The Hallmark Channel dropped Loughlin shortly after the scandal broke, in a move that shut her out of the show and any future development deals she had pending. The network issued a statement about the split from the star, saying “We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations. We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third party production.”
3. “Retooling”
When Loughlin was dropped from the show, producers had to think quick. They immiedatly called for a “retooling hiatus” to figure out next steps, saying ““#Hearties, thank you for your love, support, and patience these last several days as we have all been preoccupied with the news about Lori Loughlin and her family, and the decisions our colleagues at the Hallmark Channel USA needed to make. As you can imagine, everyone involved with When Calls the Heart was surprised by these developments, so we hope you can forgive us for initially staying silent while we sorted through how to respond.” Whatever choices they have made for the future of the show must have worked in the eyes of the network, because it has been renewed for its seventh season.

4. Cast support
Even though Hallmark cuts ties with the actress, her castmates remain on her side. Paul Greene told People that he stands by his friend. “We’ve all known Lori for a really long time. And when someone’s your friend and something happens to them, you don’t stop being their friend. You support, no matter what happens.” He went on to say “Everyone’s human. If I, Paul, all of a sudden there was some weird thing and it came out that I was being accused of something and you haven’t heard my side yet and I wasn’t supported by my friends, I’d be like, ‘Are you really my friend?’”

5. Looking forward
Greene is optimistic about the future of When Calls The Heart saying, “I feel like everyone’s really pulling together now and doing the very best that they can with what they’ve been given. And still time will tell. Things are going to continue to unravel and I think we’ll look back on this as a moment that everybody was very generous — especially the Hearties, they’ve been generous and patiently waiting. It really does speak to the loyalty of our fans.”
The show returns in May.
6. Not guilty plea
Meanwhile, Loughlin pleaded not guilty on charges of conspriacy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Sources close to her say it’s to protect her daughters. “She is very concerned about what a guilty plea would do to her daughters, who may not have grasped everything that was going on. Yes, she can think about the public perception of her, but that’s nothing compared to what her daughters think of her. So that is something that has understandably made her less likely to enter a plea.”
Loughlin pleaded not guilty.
When Calls the Heart returns May 5.
