Shawn Johnson's Husband Andrew East Receives Stitches In His Head After Fainting — Just 3 Weeks After The Birth Of Their First Child
The new dad is recovering.
Instagram Everyone can appreciate a celebrity relationship that puts regular peoples' to shame — and that goes for athletic power couple Shawn Johnson and Andrew East. Johnson is an Olympian and World Champion in gymnastics, but who is Andrew East?
A football player for various teams, there's no doubt these two probably have a little bit of competition in their marriage. And after suffering a miscarriage, the two announced in April they were expecting a baby, who was born at the end of October.
Recently, the couple has been in the headlines because of an unfortunate incident East suffered at the gym.
And though he's recovering, we're still curious about his relationship with Johnson, his career, and what being a new parent is like.
1. He's a football player.
East is currently a free agent who has played on many teams in the NFL, including the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seattle Seahawks, the Oakland Raiders, the Los Angeles Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Memphis Express, and, most recently, the Washington Redskins. In August 2019, he was waived from the Redskins.
2. The couple has been married for three years.
East and Johnson first met in 2012 through mutual friends, but didn't start dating until a few years later. After their first date, they quickly fell for each other and he proposed in July 2015.
She spoke to People about how hard the first year of marriage was due to their equally busy schedules:
"It’s been the craziest year of our lives. One day doesn’t look like the next for us! We lived out of a Hampton Inn for four months and we cooked from our hotel room. It was a long few months, we went through hard things. He got cut from the NFL and tried out for another team, we were both going through stressful times in life. I love him more every single day. The first year is the hardest and best year of your life!"
3. Johnson suffered a miscarriage in 2017.
Back in October of 2017, Johnson and East revealed that they had had a miscarriage. They announced this devasting news in a YouTube video that showed them at a doctor's office, first hearing the horrible news. East tried to tell his wife everything is going to be okay, and moments later, they're told they lost their baby.
“The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life,” Shawn captioned the video at the time. “My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next.”
4. But they're now parents to a beautiful baby girl.
After making the new pregnancy announcement, East directed fans to the heartbreaking video where they revealed their miscarriage. “If you guys are just now watching our channel for the first time, a year and a half ago we went through something rather traumatic. Shawn did, specifically. We had a miscarriage,” Andrew said in a new video. “So, this baby,” he said as he held up a pregnancy test, “has been a long time coming and we couldn’t be more excited.”
And on October 29th, the couple became parents to a baby girl named Drew Hazel East!
5. He recently fainted at the gym.
East shared a video of himself weightlifting at the gym, only to faint moments later and fall backwards, hitting his head. He was found by two friends, and was later rushed to the hospital. He's since recovered, but the family released a YouTube video explaining what happened.
“With the newborn, Shawn and I have been getting less sleep than we usually do. With the less sleep we have been drinking more caffeine. Shawn now, not being pregnant anymore, is getting back into wine, which means I am getting back into wine. Which means we’re definitely more dehydrated than we usually are... I get lightheaded when I stand up or drink too much caffeine,” he said.
East received nine staples in his head and got an EKG, and was then released the next day. However, Johnson pointed out the results of the EKG, saying, “You do have an irregular unnatural heartbeat. It just so happens that Andrew’s ticks differently.”
Luckily, East will be just fine and they can focus on raising their newborn.
