We might celebrate January 1st as New Year's Day, but in astrology, the New Year begins on the day of the new moon in Aries. And this year that's April 5th.

So if you have lost track of your New Year's resolutions, now is the real time to get things going. After all, the energy of Aries is all about taking action and passionately pursuing your goals.

1. Scream and release.

Anger is an important emotion. It protects you from physical, emotional, and psychological harm. So if you have the habit of smiling even when you are seething with rage, or tend to express it in destructive ways, the first thing you must do is release all that anger in a positive manner.

To do this, stuff your face into a pillow (to keep your neighbors from calling the cops), and scream as loudly as you can while thinking of all the people and circumstances that have recently made you very angry. You can also drive yourself to a secluded (but safe) place where people won't be disturbed by your screams, and then let them rip.

To finish this new moon ritual, light up a bundle of white sage, and clear your aura and environment with its smoke. This will help you think clearly and find a solution to the problem that was making you angry.

2. Go for a run.

Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet of war and aggression. So channel your inner warrior by going for a run out in the open. It will help you channel the martian energy of Aries in a positive manner. Plus, it also makes you more likely to take action in other areas of your life.

It doesn't have to be a run, though. You can hit the gym, go for a swim, dance to EDM, or do any other physical activity of your choice. And yes, that includes the fun stuff that happens between the sheets.

3. Wear red.

Red is a martian color. Celebrate by wearing red clothes, shoes, or maybe just pinning in a beautiful red hairclip. You will feel more confident as you go through the day this way.

4. Start a passion project.

New moon days are best for setting intentions and starting something new. But for maximum impact, you must align your intentions with the energy of the new moon's zodiac sign.

That's why this new moon in Aries is best for setting goals that are more active in nature, or those that fall in the passion-project category. That means the intention to lose 10 pounds in 3 months is a great goal for this day, and so is the goal to finish writing a novel by the end of the year.

5. Write a bunch of angry letters and burn them.

This is another great ritual for getting rid of unproductive rage. Grab a bunch of sheets and start writing letters to all the people who have angered you in the past. That includes that bully from junior high who used to steal your lunch money, or that friend from college who stabbed you in the back for a guy.

Then light a candle and set these letters on fire. Make sure to do this in a well-ventilated area with fire-safety precautions in place. You should feel unburdened when the ritual is over. And if you don't, grab some more sheets and keep writing until you do.
