Who Is Akash Ambani? New Details About The Billionaire Heir's Wedding Priyanka Chopra And Nick Jonas Attended
She went with her new hubby, Nick Jonas.
Despite just finishing up a very lavish and romantic wedding of their own, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are still very much in wedding mode. The newlywed couple was spotted attending billionaire heir Akash Ambani's wedding on March 9 in Mumbai.
The 36-year-old Bollywood star wore a pale blue lacer sari that was adorned with glistening beads. In addition to her hubby, she attended the wedding with her mother, Madhu, and her brother, Siddharth. They even snapped a super-cute pre-wedding photo with the caption "family." There were no photos of Nick, so it's possible he skipped out on some of the festivities.
It was the first time Priyanka and Nick went back to India since their three-day wedding. The moment was, of course, celebrated on social media.
"Best travel buddy ever...hello Delhi...so good to be back," she said.
So who is Akash Ambani? Here's everything we know about the billionaire heir's wedding Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas attended.
1. He was born to India's richest family.
Akash Ambani is the eldest son of Mukesh and Nita Ambani. As of January 2018, Mukesh was ranked by Forbes as the 18th-wealthiest person in the world. He is an Indian business magnate, chairman, managing director, and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited, a Fortune Global 500 company that is India's most valuable company.
So needless to say, Akash has some dough, and he respects how hard his father works.
"My father is my hero," he told GQ India. "He’s 60 and works harder than anyone in the company. He’s taught me to focus on outcomes: I may have spent 12 hours in the office, but what did I really do?"
"The other thing I want to emulate is his humility. After you’ve built six businesses like he has, you’ve earned the right to say, ‘my way or the highway.' But he’s always searching for new ideas, wherever they may come from, brainstorming with even the youngest people in the office. And whether it’s the humility of his office decorum, how he behaves with people who’ve achieved something or with people in our industry, it’s really grounding for me."
"This may seem like regular adult behavior, but people in that position can easily go off-track. I see it every day. But my dad still replies to every email he gets. He doesn’t necessarily need to engage with all the things he does, but that’s his leadership style: He makes it a point to let people know his thoughts, to guide them. I think that’s unique. To be honest, even I occasionally wonder if you really need to interact with so many people."
2. He had no idea about his family's wealth until he was in school.
Akash was born on Oct. 23, 1991, but he didn't realize the extent of his family's riches until much later in life when he was attending school.
"Everyone knew who we were, but at that age I didn’t have a complete perspective," he told GQ India. "My parents and my grandparents raised us normally. So when I first went to college, it was a culture shock. Of course, we knew we were part of an important family, but had no idea we were running India’s biggest business."
"I first understood who we really were in the 11th grade, while I was writing an essay on Reliance for a business and management course. That was eye-opening."
3. He was named one of the most eligible bachelors in India.
When Akash was a teenager, he was heavier and shorter. But as he got older, he managed to lose weight and was named one of the most eligible bachelors in India.
And he stayed that way until he met his now-wife, Shloka Mehta.
4. He met his wife while in school.
Akash first met Shloka when they were both studying at Dhirubhai Ambani International School. They reportedly dated for a long time before he proposed to her during a private event in Goa.
Shloka has a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Princeton University and a master's degree from The London School of Economics and Political Science. She's also the co-founder of the platform ConnectFor and is the director of Rosy Blue Foundation.
5. Their wedding was a massive affair.
The couple got married in Mumbai in a weekend-long extravaganza that looked "straight out of a Bollywood set," according to NDTV. Their vows were broadcasted for everyone to watch.
"We will respect, cherish each other. Feelings and fulfill the responsibilities of married life with honor," read Akash Ambani.
"In happiness and sorrow, we shall conduct ourselves with dignity. In sickness and health, we shall be together," said Shloka.
"With body, mind and soul, we shall be faithful to each other," Akash finished. They also vowed to have "equal status and authority in every moment of their lives."
Maroon 5 performed during the post-wedding celebrations.
